I refer to myself as a drum set owner, as opposed to a drummer. Ditto mandolin & especially guitar. (Although I have performed on all 3 in public for compensation, it would be an insult to those who really play these instruments to say that I do also.)

Bass, guitar, keys, and a hybrid dobro/banjo at the moment. The dojo is my main squeeze right now, and probably for the next six months or so while I get to grips with it. Bass will be my lowest priority for a good while, I reckon, since I've retired from gigging and playing anything else at home tends to be more fun and productive for me.

Bass is my primary instrument. I dabble in guitar, keys and ukulele. I’m a sub-mediocre singer, but once played in a power trio with 3 part harmonies and could sing my parts in tune wjhile playing bass. I’m hoping to sing more moving forward.

“I (only) play bass” is my standard reply and it’s true. The only instrument I play onstage is a bass but I can play guitar and piano. In these days multi instrumentalist are pretty common but I ain’t from these days.

I mostly play out on the bass. While singing.
I also call myself a drummer : I've been practicing seriously for 6 years.
And I came back to guitar a year ago for a project I started : 90's rock. I started that project on drums. Then the guitarist had to leave and I replaced him. It's been a good experience.

Until I was in my early 40s, I would have told you I was exclusively a bassist. The real question for most of this time was if my focus was mainly on upright or electric bass

Songwriting, guitar playing and singing have been competing for bass time recently but my only gigging band has me on the bass right now

In the last handful of years I have studied (with a teacher) voice, piano and drums.In addition to trap lessons, I played conga for a few years in an Afro/Cuban dance troupe.

I think all of these experiences add to me being a better bassist. As for guitar, I am actually figuring out how to play lead a little bit right now! I have also been dabbling with the mandolin, like many of you - what a gorgeous instrument, and can't argue with the size

Songwriting, and recording my songs, has taught me a lot more about being a bassist than I thought it would. I have learned to serve the song vs looking for the coolest bassline.

I would be a better bassist if I limited my focus to bass. As is, I just hope to keep learning to be a better musician.

In the past I did play sax and clarinet. Used to own a guitar but I just diddled on it. Bar chords are difficult now due to a trigger finger issue.
