Are you really happy being "The Bass Player"

I am more than happy being "The Bass Player" and I've been one for 47 years....and I'm still lovin it. Of course what I really want to do is "Direct".

I started out taking guitar lessons (for about a month) before I switched to bass. Paul McCartney was my idol so I've always wanted to play bass. I still play guitar for fun but I have never wanted to play guitar in a band setting. I honestly feel the bass is my instrument and I don't feel as comfortable with a guitar in my hands (at least in a band anyway). What say you?

Totally happy about being "The Bass Player." I feel very comfortable with the guitar in my hands, however, and take opportunities to allow that side and outlet. Therefore... ...I don't feel compelled to express myself in ways that some may interpret as "a guitar player pretending to play bass" simply because I already HAVE a guitar outlet, and can approach each instrument CONTEXTUALLY. Neither instrument has to hold all my "musical eggs in one basket" if you'll pardon the phrase.

Some of my favorites include James Jamerson, Lee Sklar, Jimmy Johnson to name just a few, and these folks guide and inform my playing and approach a great deal. I ALSO play guitar and have a number of guitar influences.

Yep. I'm really happy being "The Bass Player." And when someone else is the bass player, I'm really happy being "The Guitar Player." When someone's got those, I'm really happy being The Drummer."

Music, inspiration, expression and outlet is a wonderful thing to cherish no matter in what form it comes. And I do, as I wish for you.

I never wanted to be anything but a bass player although I also play trombone and other low brass. I never sought the spotlight. I'm completely happy buried in the backline. For me, the ultimate compliment comes when I miss a week or a rehearsal at my church gig and everyone comes up and say show happy they are to have me back, or how great it is to have a bass player who is so solid. I don't need or want solos.
