both pickups sound like they have useable tones separate, but when put together (at equal volume) they sound phasey and weird. much like my OLP. with both pickups full up, it sounds awful, but take one down a notch or 5, and then the bass is open and clear.

It's funny you should mention that, because (so far) my favorite setting is with the neck pup up full, bridge down a 1/4 or so, and the tone slightly rolled back. To tell you the truth, I'm really fond of the tone - I can't wait to take it to band practice and see how that "phasey" sound sits in the mix...
...Not that anyone else in the band will notice, anyway...
Also, this clip is also on the stock (re: crappy) strings that came with the bass. I figure I'll determine which sounds better, the Lace or the SD, and then put some real strings on there.

thats close to what i do, only my pickups are right next to each other. i MAKE myself heard in the mix. they know i have wild tone and they love it.
ive got a piece of blue tape on the bridge volume knob with a line. when the line is straight up, im happy with the sound.
i know its some weird phase relationship, because the second they are uneven, i get clear tone. same with jazz basses really.
so yea, with that bass, sounds like you found the phase sweet spot, and thats a good feeling. throw another P, or maybe even a big mudbucker in the neck and you've got nearly unlimited sounds (with a few switches of course). but thats my mad scientist speaking.

The audio editing isn't the greatest, but it's completely untouched, beyond splicing in the recorded audio from my DI over the audio from my cam.
