Argh! String won't stay on!

I just looked at a close up of a Geddy Jazz headstock online and there is a hole in the center of the tuners, just like every bass I've ever owned, and I've owned and built a lot of them. Stick the end of the string down into the hole, then bend it over, through the slot and around the peg. Maybe you have a faulty tuning peg.

Sounds like the string might be too short. Do you cut your strings? I was restringing my Pbass not to long ago and cut the G too short (shouldn't have cut it at all) and nothing I could do would keep the string from popping off the peg. Ended up having to buy a new string.

I think it is the brand that I'm using. This is my first time using D'Addarios, I usually use EB Super Slinkies.

OH that hole. Yes i stick it down into that hole. I thought you guys were reffering to the cutout thingy. Sorry. Although it still won't stay.

What I do on that sting is cut it about 1/2" longer than it needs to be,insert the string into the hole of the tuning peg,wrap 1/2 turn the opposite way,back through the peg slot,and wrap as usual. The G strung typically has the most tension,and is more likely to slip without enough wraps. Sounds like you just cut it too short.

You should try to get at least 3 wraps around the peg. That's part of what keeps it from coming out.
