Armed Forces recruit training

I was going to post on the Navy thread, but I got the idea for a new thread. For those of us who served, for whatever country you're from, a short description of how recruit training went.

I was in the Canadian Armed Forces back in the mid-70s (logistics, as you can see by my avatar). I did the 11-week basic training at CFB Cornwallis in Nova Scotia (now closed), and from what I remember we had a course called General Service Knowledge, which taught us all we needed to know about rank, etiquette, service history, etc. We naturally had weapons training, with the Canadian Forces using the FN-C1, FN-C2, 9mm submachine gun (my favorite!), and the Browning 9mm auto pistol. Lots and lots of physical training, culminating with a 10-mile run in full combat gear (and I kept my breakfast down!). Lots of parade grounds close-order drill until we were like a machine! But the thing I remember the most was the camaraderie we recruits had with each other. It's been almost 40 years now, and I still wonder what ever happened to the guys!

I thing it's a good experience for a young man to go through. I learned a lot about myself, and I was in the best shape of my life. All I now have from those times is my beret and cap badge, which I will always hold on to.
