Arthritis decision

Reading this I feel young and strong. I only struggle some with reduced mobility in left forearm and wrist soreness. Short scale helps. Weight relieved bodies might be good, but also affects balance. My Short scale Jaguar balances perfectly but is quite heavy. Good luck with the Sire, hope it all works out well.

Phew! This thread has shown me i'm not alone. I have worked on cars full time for over 52 years so when my back started becoming too much to bear i actually did something about it. I had a lumbar fusion operation 2 weeks ago. I now know the difference between muscular/skeletal pain and nerve pain. It may come as a surprise that nerve pain is a real bitch! Anyhow, i also discovered i broke a bone in my spine as a teen but had no idea, this caused all the problems that lead to the surgery. I hope to recover completely and no longer think that doing a physical job 60 hrs a week comes with an aching back!
Additionally my work has left me with arthritic sausage fingers. This has very much affected my playing, to the point where i must acknowledge that I am probably never going to regain the dexterity i once enjoyed. The point is, listen to your body, get it checked out and fixed before you are crippled. Sorry for the hijack but I had to get that out!:)

One of the best career lessons I learned was pretty simple; "The human body is a 'use it or lose it' proposition. If you don't invest in some kind of productive, healthy exercise...even low-level activities like modest, regular walks...it will eventually fail you."

I learned this from a Physical Education teacher right after I told her I was going to buy and use a bicycle to deal with my old lower back problems. When I told her of my exercise plan, her exact words were, "Well, congratulations...you just spared yourself ten years of decrepitude at the end of your life!"

Likewise, apologies for the hijacking, but this seemed like a great place for me to share some of the best professional advice that ever came my way.

Okay: following up. My Sire u5 was delivered Thursday, August 1st. It was unblemished and set up beautifully from Zzounds. Saturday, August 3rd I played it for a 4 hour gig (in SWFL heat) and I could not be more happy with the choice! I'm super impressed with both the presence and the tonal options from this totally passive short scale. My band loves it (we're on break right now!), and I've had two audience members ask me what kind of bass I'm playing! Oh, and what a huge difference a couple of pounds makes for my back!
