Not sure this is the right place to post this, but I felt compelled to share given how excited I am about this thing: Link Removed

I've been following it for a while and just got the email to pre-order, so I pulled the trigger! Anyone else into this sort of thing?

Besides bass I'm a long-time pianist, keyboard/synth guy (yes I still have a keytar), and mediocre nylon guitar player. I've been trying to leverage my iPad for a while now for wireless MIDI, sounds etc., but I'm really excited about the potential for the Artiphon as a mobile writing/composing device. I grew up with a couple of the synth guitars in the 80s (SynthAxe, a Casio, and a Unisynth XG-1), and the Artiphon seems like it might the fo-realz version finally!

Just got this email in the event anyone wants to take the plunge and save some dough...and admittedly give me some back :-) I'm not affiliated with Artiphon in any way, just an excited customer!

Is it the KEY-TAR of the next generation?!?

Kinda, but perhaps less ghey and more elegant? The demos are impressive IMO.

For those that are (still) interested, I received the following email...so things are still progressing.

"Greetings from Nashville, and thank you for pre-ordering the INSTRUMENT 1.

We’re excited to say that the INSTRUMENT 1 is currently in production and we have begun shipping. We will be shipping units to our community of Kickstarter backers, closely followed by pre-order customers.
As we ramp up manufacturing, the rate of production will be the main factor determining the timeline for fulfilling orders, and we will be shipping units in batches based on this production run-rate. We expect to fulfill all pre-order customers during the month of July.

Pre-orders will ship based on a combination of factors: the order in which they were placed, and the region to which they are being shipped.

We will contact you for final confirmation of your address and order details before your unit ships. When your instrument has shipped, you will get an email from the carrier with your tracking number.

We’ve been working nonstop to launch the INSTRUMENT 1 and we appreciate your patience and support throughout this journey. Don’t hesitate to get in touch if you have any questions regarding the product or your pre-order."

For those that are interested, I received my Artiphon Instrument1. It's certainly a very interesting and unique instrument, with a new set of play-ability challenges. I think my intended primary goal of using it as a mobile writing/composing interface with my iPad will definitely be a reality though...once I can actually play it better ;-)

I strongly think that inventing a new instrument nowadays is ALL about inventing a new INTERFACE. I mean, sound synthesis is VERY advanced so the sound itself is not a problem, but a cool/practical/intuitive interface is (moreso thinking of all the diverse instruments, the very different ways in which they are played and the variety of expression each can give). I like this but still think there's better interfaces, such as the ROLI Seabord. Problem is most people who use it are keyboard players and use it just as a keyboard. Marco Parisi (Roli's main showcaser) is the only guy I've ever saw/listened to that really takes out all the juice out of the Seabord in a highly impressive and technical way, capturing, for instance, all the nuances of a guitar...

I suspect playing a keyboard instrument on the Artiphon's chromatic layout migh be a PITA for anyone familiar with a keyboard.
