Opinions On this amp? I'm thinking of buying it, will it be loud enough to compete with a guitarist and drummer? The guitarist will be playing 30 watts at the very most. Thanks

Ashdown EB 12-180 Evo II Combo

I have the 15 inch version of this and it managed to hold its own against a drummer and a 100 watt Blackstar rig.
They are surprisingly loud combos and can be used with an extension cab.
If you're gigging, the DI out is brilliant.
My only criticism is that the Sub Harmonoc feature is not very good with this model. I recently got the ABM 900 head and an 810cab and the extra headroom really lets the Subs sing

could you explain the whole extension can scenario for me? If I got the 15" version what extension can would be best and what will it do? Lol thanks

The amp is rated as 180 watts at 4 ohm. The attached 15 or 12 inch speaker is an 8 ohm speaker, so a second 8 ohm cabinet can be used at the same time. This will allow the full 180 watts to be used.
I used it with a MAG 410 cabinet and found that I got plenty of volume with just the 410 connected; the 15 in the combo was drowned out when both were used.
If you get the combo, it will do fine. If you want a more volume, add another cabinet of your choice

sorry one more thing haha will this amp be up to competing with drums and about 30watts of guitar amp? And also I play rock orientated stuff ie foo fighters etc. which speaker would suit me best the 12" or 15" and what's the actual difference? Greatly appreciated
I had no problem being heard in a mix with a drummer, a 400 watt PA powered vocalist and a cranked up 100 watt Blackstar half stack. I did have to crank my amp a bit, but it didn't do any harm. You just need to listen for distortion and back it down.
I play similiar kind of style and the 15 inch version did fine. Nate from the Foos uses tge Ashdown BTA tube amps and several 810 cabinets. I haven't tried the 12 inch version, but I imagine it would sound a little closer to what you are looking for. However, you will lose some volume as you are moving less air and in all honesty, with a single speaker combo, I don't really see there being that much difference in sound.
If I was in you shoes (and I was a couple of years ago) I would go for the 15 so you move plenty of air, and then get a seperate cabinet when you can to start looking at getting the tone you want.
Alternatively, save up and get an Ashdown ABM or Dual Valve 210 or 410 combo. Both amps sound killer in a rock band like Foo Fighters and would probably not need to be upgraded as soon to get more volume

If the ABM or Valve combos had been around when I got my EB, then I would have gone for a 210 combo instead of the EB. Just to let you know

I have the 12" version which I use more as a monitor during large shows and monitor/house during small, coffee house shows. I absolutely love this amp. It's 300w at 4ohms. That allows me to connect a Carvin LM12 monitor to it, to aim it up toward me. I'm actually looking for three more of these. In reality, I'll have an 8x12, super-modular system when I get them and add the 12" monitors to them. This amp made love 12s and Ashdown!
Hello guys. I tryed the EB12-180 at a small gig and I've been really impressed! I would like to get one! Can you tell me if there's also a tweeter or only a 12" woofer in the cab?
