Ashdown Studio 15 broken cord storage cylinder

I just bought a new Ashdown Studio 15. Love the amp. As some of you may know there’s a cord storage cylinder in back. This broke off during shipping and is rolling around inside the amp. Not surprising since it’s basically just thick cardboard. Questions:

- How do I get it out of there?

-Is this worth making a warranty issue over?

-Should I bother trying replace it, glueing it back on? If so, anyone have any hacks that would work well?

-If I get it out of the amp and just leave the hole there is that going to affect anything with amp performance/sound?

Thanks in advance for your answers!

It's not really a cord storage cylinder -- it's the duct for the ducted port. It will definitely adversely affect the performance of the cab if you don't glue it back in place. You'll probably need to remove the speaker and approach the problem from the front side.

Edit: I'm just realizing you said you bought this new -- make it a warranty issue if you don't want to tackle the problem yourself. But it IS an easy fix.

That amp must have taken one hell of a hit during shipping for something like that to happen. I'd be worried about what else came loose, things you can't see from the outside, things that might not show audible symptoms for a while.

If the amp came with the cord shoved into that port, then that would increase the probability of breakage during shipping, because of the extra mass the port must withstand in order not to break when the amp is bumped hard.

Actually, Im pretty sure I remember a previous thread about this amp where the owner was saying something to the effect of, “…there is a tube that looks like a port but its closed on the inside.?.?.?”
So, Im pretty sure it is, in fact, the cord storage tube.

Even if that is the case, then it's a sealed cabinet that's now not sealed or ported in other areas with a new opening that's not intended. OP should return the defective product shipped to them IMO.

From Sweetwater description

"The Studio 15's speaker is back-ported to provide deeper bass response,"

But some players will use port to store cords🙂

Which may or not be what your pretty sure you heard

Yeah, maybe Im wrong about it, and I certainly don’t disagree about sending it back for warranty; but there was a thread months ago (im pretty shure it was the Ashdown 15) that had a closed tube that looked like a port but wasn’t.
Yes, definitely send that thing back!

What confused me on Sweetwater's site was they show two different pictures of this cab on the same listing. I've noticed their descriptions aren't always accurate. Whether that be AI, or quick copy-paste from manufacturers I'm not sure. But, as much as I love Sweetwater, I don't take their word without some further research.

I agree it seems ported based on the photos and what I normally associate holes in the cab to be. Going along with @MVE it could be true that the single rear "port" is different than the dual ported one shown. If OP could let us know before replacement by shining a light in the tube to see if it's closed or not would be nice for curiosities sake :) (based on OP's photo, it appears they have the second photo below, with the "port" closer to the bottom right of the cab).

Yes anything is possible but both look. Like ports to me: and never seen or heard of combos with cord storage in that manor maybe clips or room by Amp area can be used
But never seen mentioned in discriptions as a feature

I'm with you, I assume ports when I see something like pictured. With at least one other member mentioning a case of it being closed at the other end, I was trying to stay open minded. Ports are common, a hole for cable storage not so much (other than initial shipment of the product using a port as such).

So I took it to an amp repair place to get the cylinder removed so it wouldn’t roll around. It’s a thick cardboard. Again, is that being absent going to affect the performance?
Yes. Assuming that is actually a port, removing it is going to affect performance. You need that in there in its proper place for the cab/driver to work together as intended. You bought this new, why not get it replaced since it was shipped to you defective?
