Auburn/Grass Valley/Nevada City as well (there's a luthier up in those parts iirc) There was one in Oroville, not sure if he's still around, he made some nice furniture and sold exotic wood. Hey, thanks, Dizzy- I've contacted a luthier in Winters, just 20 minutes away. It will be next week before I can get up there, so on to other crepe for awhile.
I use my tablesaw to resaw. I cut one side then flip it over and cut the rest of the way through. It works as long as the board is under 7 3/4" wide.
Well, I have a few boards from the aforementioned walnut that are too small or checked to use for anything- I'll experiment/practice on them.
Cancelled/postponed the trip to my luthier friend who was going to resaw my tops- maybe next week. Meantime I think I'll attempt to do one myself. The shop floor has been free of wood chips for too long.

There we go- my third serious shot at resawing. I didn't get the thickness right & one side's a good bit thicker, but I'll turn them over & surface plane to match. This is the nicest of 3. Yay!
