I've been meaning to give this poor slab a makeover for years- I now hope you real builder types will goad me into getting off my arse & finishing what I started today. Yea, piloto- the mahogany is for wingage. I also have some funky-looking walnut that I want to face the whole thing with.

Hmm, if the wood turns out to be nice you should just toss some wings on it and do a natural finish.

ATM I'm working on a jig to run it across the table saw & sever the non-parallel edges, for a nice glue-up.

I clamped the bass to this slab of particleboard w/a melamine-type laminate(or maybe coating- not sure), centered it & drilled holes through the slab & bass, then screwed it down tight. Next I'll run it across the table saw & voila- squared edges for le glue-up

@Will- thanks; I really admire so much of what I see over here, and would love to post some finished work of my own.
@BassCycle- my mom found the burl at a garage sale- it had been a very ugly clock, so there are some very poorly-placed holes, but it really is a remarkable hunk of wood(I actually have two THICK slabs).

Yeah, I'm leaning strongly toward the walnut. I milled the top of the bass down a bit this morning to make a nice gluing surface- this thing is straight butcher-block/multiple piece. Pics coming...

Alright- I have the core of the bass all squared up, got a couple of nice hunks of Honduras mahogany for the wings & several peces of walnut for top/back(s).; I'm stopped because I can't resaw the walnut. Does anyone know of a shop in Northern Cali(Sacramento area)that could split a few boards?
