Thanks to Jimmy for his kind offer. The fact is that I have sent you an e-mail with some questions on your own pre...
Talking about the Marcus Miller 5, I couldn't get rid of some hollowness and lack of character in its tone (truly, fully subjective view, as it has to be), even after installing an OBP1 pre with passive tone control and Nordstrand singlecoils. I guess whtat's not in the bass won't come out independently of electronics.

ive experienced some low mid hollowness in most of the lighter swamp ash basses ive played. thats the biggest reason my lakland 5594 and american deluxe jazz 5 strings are no longer with me. both were in the 8 pound range and didnt have much impact. around what weight was your miller 5? im thinking about checking one out, but i know fender is managing to use some pretty light ash on the higher end of their basses

Could you please give me a link to Mashino's website/shop?

As of this past week, Mas Hino is working for me at Guitar Man in NYC. Mas is generally available during the week for repairs and right now there isn't much of a wait (though this will probably change as more people discover where he is). Eventually he will be building his own line of basses as well as some house brand instruments for Guitar Man - we are working out a bass design now. For those of you who don't know us:

I have a Atelier z m-245. All part original, slap really like MArcus Miller.......But I think there is some problem in the tone is that the fingering is not good enough. Because the bass itself is very hot and have not tone control with boost only bass and treble, so fingering sound in not smooth and warm even neck pickup roll off a bit and treble fully roll off. My japan friend replace athe pick up to lindy fralin jazz and he said that bass is amazing. He also sugguested replace the pre-amp to j-retro although he didn't. He had 46 basses with 12 fodera basses, so I think his suggestion is good and worth listening...... My sugguestion is, if you only slap or have more than 1 basses, you just upgrade the pickup and use it with bartolini xtct which marcus is using, then slap it like crazy. If you paly fingering in this bass, you may further add a VTC to it to roll off so high( I have experience in it, sound better), or further replace the preamp.

In my case, I will replace the pickup to best 70's jazz vibe----lindy, nodry VJ or S. Dunca vintage jazz.......And add a tone to it......just fine to me...I like the'hi-fi' soung of this bass.........

Good luck,
Man-Ho
