A question for those who have a better ear than I do or have experience transcribing their work. What is Atheist's tuning on Piece of Time, Unquestionable Presence, and Elements?

  2. I believe the tuning is E standard.

They do use E standard tuning on Unquestionable Presence.

  5. I use E standard, but I'm not sure what my religious non-beliefs have to do with my bass tuning. :)

  6. yeah man, I googled it and couldn't find any ties between the two...

  7. It's indeed E standard. They're one of the really few death metal bands that tuned in E.

  9. So glad to see more and more people on TB digging the work of Roger, Tony and crew. One of my favorite bands of all time and good friends of mine.

^ I was checking out some metal archives reviews a year ago and one of the reviews for Piece of Time or Unquestionable Presence talked about how catchy they were. After that I checked out Unholy Wars and fell in love with the song and the band the first couple seconds. :) That's cool your friends with the band, those guy are some of the best at making technical music while keeping their albums incredibly catchy.

  11. I found out about them a similar way...first song I heard/learned was "On They Slay." And I COMPLETELY agree-- the masters of balancing techincality, catchiness, and most of all SONGWRITING. The last part is something very, very lost on "death metal" bands today like Iwrestledabearonce and Winds of Plague.

Eh, that's why they're not death metal, at least on the first one. I recall hearing a few songs and they don't carry any of the traits of previous death metal I have listened to.(Albums from Atheist, Death, Morbid Angel,At the Gates Cannibal Corpse, Obituary. I listen to songs by other bands such as Bolt Thrower, Possessed, ect). Didn't sound like any of those bands at all.
