- Chuck Sher publishes my book, WALKING BASSICS:The Fundamentals of Jazz Bass Playing.
In reverse order:EdI know you've mentioned it before but if you could remind us. What do you typically plug the mic into for smaller gigs, jams, rehearsals? Are you using a bass amp? Powered monitor?
Rehearsals- I tend to do rehearsals acoustically, no amplification
Jam sessions- if I’m in the house band I bring my amp, if I’m just sitting in I use the house bassist’s set up. Sam Edwards, who is generally the house bassist for a couple of sessions here, generally plays without amplification
Gigs, big or small, I use the Clarus S4+ and the GK MBX112 extension cab. The Clarus has XLR inputs and a low end cut, phantom power if needed (409 doesn’t). If it’s a big house, there’s a Direct Out that has a pre or post EQ choice
