On the other end of the spectrum, you also have those people who complain about basses being too versatile. They're my favorite.
I don't complain about a bass being too versatile but I'd rather have something that has one really great sound than a couple of just ok ones. It's just been my experience that once you start trying to make one bass that sounds like a bunch of others, you end up with something similar to, but not quite exactly dead-on the other tones. So perhaps I shy away from basses like a Line 6 Variax for this reason.
