All I really use Audacity for is to record parts of tracks to playback on a loop.

75% of the time it works as it should.

25% of the time it does not. I either get an error message that says there is "Latency issue" (see screenshot below), or it just doesnt record.

Sometimes restarting my MBP helps, oftentimes it does not. What am I missing here to correct this?

My free time is painfully short, and I'd prefer not to spend it struggling like this. Is there something better out there than Audacity to accomplish what I want to do?

There is no screen shot.

Throwing another DAW at it might not be the solution. If Audacity is having latency issue, it's very likely that Reaper will as well (I say this as someone who uses and advocates for Reaper).
You're going to have to spend some time troubleshooting this. What devices are being used, and what connectivity are they? What apps do you have open while recording? What latency is it complaining about (interface? disk? plugin?)? Have you checked for new drivers and firmware where applicable?

Reaper.

It is $60, but you have no time limit on trial mode, which is fully functional. Is the latency issue with Audacity or with your interface?

Im not sure whats causing the issue. It seems to happen if I leave Audacity open and unused for a period of time (as in closing the lid on my MBP).

A restart usually fixes it...

Also not sure what happened to the photo I posted.
