All of my basses were passive and I wanted to experiment with an active pre. I got an Audere Pro JZ3 and installed it in one of my Jazz Basses. Where the bass was previously dead quiet, I'm getting what I would describe as a bit of "white noise" from it now.
Is this normal? Noise isn't very loud, but loud enough that I find it distracting when playing at low volume.
Bass is well shielded and pickups are Dimarzio Area J.
I did separate the ground from the common on the pickups per David's instructions.
