Audere

I have been so impressed with the Audere I installed in my Fender Jazz 5 that I am getting ready to install an Audere 4 band system in my Carvin Icon5. I will post results (well my opinion) I should say. I find my Carvin to sound very nice but I figured this will make it for sure a one of a kind so to speak....Dave

Been thinking about throwing an Audere in a franken jazz with a status graphite neck and I have an Icon 5 thats due here next week. I really look forward your observations or any recordings you might have.

The only concern I had about ordering the Carvin was the electronics. The preamp is one thing but it looks like there a few options when it comes to aftermarket pickups too. Are you happy with the sound now and just looking to get more of a good thing?

Andy

Well guys it's about 1:45 AM EST and I just got it back together, I had to drill one hole and enlarge 2, please understand I am not an electronics guy, this taxed my minimal skills big time, but I tell you what it sounds very good. I have a gig tomoorow night so I will know a little more tomoorow night . I did like it fine stock but after seeing the diff the Audere made in a Fender Jazz I have I thought what to heck. Dave at Audere said he did not think he had one running in an Icon. I love the 3 pos. switch, it truly changes up things big time. I wish I was more of an expert on sound but I really just know what I like. Andy I thought the factory sound was great, I am just experimenting cause I had a few extra bucks. James it was good talking to ya the other day. I will add to this Sunday. I added a couple of pics showing where I put the switch and I put the battery light indicator through the back....Dave

Well from the outside it looks factory to me. And thats a sweet looking bass. That fretboard looks great! Any more pics?

How did the Audere effect the sound of your jazz bass? I'm leaning more and more toward throwing one in my jazz.

Thanks for the report,
Andy

Thanks for the compliment on the bass, it is one of the nicest looking and playing basses I have ever played. Honestly I never gave the Jazz a chance w/o the preamp. I had started with a sound check on one gig w/o the preamp and we were having sound problems (imagine that) and I just grabbed up the Carvin to play that night, I then heard about the Audere and tried it. I played the last 2 hours of our last gig using the Jazz and it cut like a knife through everything, but had that defined tight sound, then I decided to try one in the Carvin. The middlde switch position is like Jazz with more butt and optioons as it does not seem to color the tone, but gives the mid, treble and bass cut along with the blend it just gives more options.. WOW did not mean to write a book.....Dave

Well I did a gig last night with the Carvin Icon5 with the new Audere 4 band preamp, I diffinitely could tell I had made a change, more useable (for me) mids, easier to manipulate. I may investigate a pickup change. But before it was over I was going to my 95 Fender Std 5 American Jazz with the Audere. I have had it for sale for a while here on TB. I cannot believe someone did not buy this baby, it is still listed but I really do not care if someone buys it or not now. I see a lot of you are talking about other Jazz pups but these sound mighty fine...Dave

What kind of pickups did you have in there?

Nordstrand SVs. I've yet to find a fingerstyle tone that quite works for me, but it is the best sounding slap bass I've ever played with just a slight boost on the treble and bass, and in position 2 which I think is low z neck and hi z bridge. I'll find the fingerstyle eventually, there are just so many options on the audere.

Bottom line, I'd like my 6s to sound this awesome, and it is probably easier to do the Pre than to find 6 string J pickups that actually fit.
