Audio in for home practice help

Hello!

I am new to this forum and I am new to playing bass in live settings now too. I do not know if this is the exact spot to put this question, so I apologize in advance if not, but I am wanting to practice more while I am at home, but want to do it silently since I am in an apartment. I recently bought a Source Audio Zio preamp and it has a headphone out jack to practice, but how do I get audio in so I can practice along with a recording and backing tracks. Thanks for your help and excited to be apart of this forum!

Welcome!

I wasn't familiar with [Invalid or Expired Link Removed], but it looks like that's not a capability this box has on its own. You'll need to run the XLR into your PC audio interface and play along with your computer's audio. That's how I do it with my preamps at home. There are also headphone only amps like [Invalid or Expired Link Removed] that you can run audio into via 1/8th inch cable. Sorry to tell you there's another step, but I hope this helps.

What is source for the tracks you want to play with? I looked up your preamp and it also has a 1/4" output. Do you have an amp or head that includes a second "audio" input and a headphone output? And or, using your computer as mentioned by @Bag of Lazers or the multiple input type of headphones that are available. Have fun. The preamp looks to be quite a nice one.

I’m not familiar with your preamp, so can only tell you what I have for silent practice. I have a Digitech BR-3500 effects pedal that has a media input with a.mixable level. The pedal has amp and effects models to chose from. I use a fairly good set of headphones or ear buds to monitor it. There is no need for an additional amplification, and this unit can interface with a computer as it has a midi out, as well as XLR left right sends.

A low-noise mixer might help.
Check-out the LZSIG LMIX1 on Amazon. $29.99 (4-channel)
(I have their microphone amp, and it's very low noise.)
This mixer takes both 1/8 inch and 1/4 inch inputs and outputs (each port)
You could put your MP3 into one channel. your bass into another,
and use headphones for listening.

And if it doesn't work for you, you can give it back to Amazon!
