You’d also have no way of knowing for sure if the crossover and small cone driver are working properly. And with Duke’s cabs the crossovers are a pretty big part of the value proposition, IMO.

Great point Charlie. Duke's cab designs are an especially intricate balance of geometry, speaker performance and the crossover to get the performance and voicing versatility he does in such a compact, lightweight package.

Hi guys,

I need your suggestion before making a commitment. I have Hathor 1203 Tall with a bad driver(my mistake...). I am planning to sell it on either here or local Craiglist/Facebook Market Place(I prefer not to ship). I know a new driver,Kappalite 3012LF, costs around $250(either from Duke or other venders). Should I sell it as is or buy/install a new driver and sell it? Which way would be more financially beneficial? I appreciaate your input!

Short of the woofer being bad what condition is the rest of the cabinet in? If you want to get in near the top of the going rate you should fix it. If you sell as is, you are at the mercy of what you can get, and you may get low balled or have to go real low to sell it. Also in good working condition it may sell faster. My 2 cents worth!

Good question. Was the driver the only thing damaged? What about the 3 inch driver? You would certainly want to know that before laying down cash for it.
1: You (OP) are taking a gamble with replacing the driver. What if you have more damage.
2: You sell it cheap. The purchaser is taking a gamble too.
3: If you have additional damage, who do you get to repair it, and at what cost?
That is a tough call.

There are 2 main people that know how the cabinet should sound: Duke and @Sanchan. Anyone else receiving the non-functioning cabinet has no base line (pun not intended) for former working function/tonality. If there is a problem beyond the blown driver, is it the crossover, other speaker, other wiring, or some combination? If it were my cabinet, I would definitely replace the driver, hoping that addressed the damage.

If everything is functional, and I still wanted to sell, I would disclose the driver situation.

If the cabinet is still not functioning, at least the damaged driver variable has been addressed. Further disclosure would be made in potential sale.

As a purchaser, I have been fortunate to buy new directly from Duke. I have steered away from used due to not knowing condition, or the player/owner and their history of use. Face it. Many of the cabs are old, and use/abuse is unknown. And, there is no authorized service provider that I know to diagnose/make required repairs.

Gentlmen, Thank you so much for your valuable input! I really appreciate all of you. I have been feeling bad about blowing the main driver and I did not even think about posssible damage to other parts of the cab. What a bummer! I am considering sending the cab back to Duke to have him replace the driver and inspect/repair other parts. Whether or not I decide to keep/sell the cab, it needs to be 100 percent healthy. Once again, thank you so much for your replies!

If this is an option I would do this. Otherwise I’d take a stab at a driver change before selling. If you do sell it as is please don’t say “should be an easy fix” in your ad. That’s a minor irritant for me. If it’s easy the fix it?!?

Thank you for your suggestion. I promise. If i am not 100 percent sure of its health, I will not sell it to anyone especially my fellow forum members. I am not even sure I really want to sell it anyway LOL

I know what you mean. I don't know if I could sell mine for twice what I paid for them.
