Duke.....curious, are your input jacks wired in series or parallel for daisy-chaining two cabs [on the Hathor 1203]? I hope Chris [strangerdanger] doesn't mind me asking this question. But some weird mojo (crappy sound, lots of digital distortion) is happening with his cabs when running 1 speakon cable from his amp (GK MB800) to the Hathor stack, which from there cab #1 is daisy-chained to cab #2. However, all works well when the cabs are plugged in to the two individual speakon connectors seperately on the amp. Weird. I know. Well do more trouble shooting tomorrow. I'll have my amp (TH500), different cables, different guitars, and a digital VOHM meter to really see what's going on. Till then, just wanted to see how the cabs are supposed to be wired.

Interesting. Maybe nostatic will chime in with his cable configuration. Are the cabs by any chance wired out of phase? Nah, that shouldn't be it if they sound fine with individual cables coming from the amp. Must be something with the way the chained second input is wired.

I'm pretty sure I remember Duke addressing this same question in this thread but I couldn't find it. I believe they are wired for parallel use, not series.

It would be pretty strange if they were wired for series use. I wouldn't think anyone would want to use two 1203's running in series at a combined 16 ohm load. You wouldn't get much performance out of your power section. Kinda seems impractical.

I found this in an old post by Duke.

The original 4-ohm TC112 is quite benign for a "4 ohm" cab, and could probably be billed as a 5 or even 6 ohm cab, except that my marketing department would have killed me. And the Hathor 1203 doesn't have any nasty impedance dips. So, you could probably get away with running them in parallel as long as you don't push 'em hard (which could cause your amp's output stage to overheat). I'm not recommending gigging with the pair in parallel unless you know for sure your amp is okay with it, but I think you could hook 'em up and try it out.

I've never heard of any bass cabs with the jacks wired in series.

Might not have any bearing on this situation, but have you tried using a different cable? Also, I had a GK MB200 for awhile. It had an egregious amount of hiss, so I sent it in for a warranty repair. Got it back -- I think they replaced a capacitor or something like that. When I got it back, plugging into this one, 4 Ohm cab at a certain club sent it into protect mode every time. None of my other heads did that with that cab. Sent it back again for a replacement. The new head didn't have the problem, and worked fine with that same cab.

The issue might indeed lie with the wiring in the cab. If so, I'm sure Duke will help you sort it out (the cream cabs do indeed look "pimp"), but I'd try another head and cable, too.

My Hathor 1203 arrived yesterday and I am very impressed with the clarity and volume this little wonder produces. Paired with my 800RB, P Basses sound wonderful, especially with "driven" settings as shown here. Kudos to you Duke on getting it built and delivered ahead of schedule, just amazing work ethic and a true inspiration. Thank you sir.

I finally had a chance to turn my rig up and I have to say I'm 100% completely happy with the TC212. This is the best sounding rig I've ever had (and the lightest). The Demeter head seems to take all the goodness from my bass and eliminates any badness, and then the cab produces what the head is putting out. It's amazing. The sound is fully dimensional, clear, articulate, warm and has a lovely hi-end with absolutely zero gank or rastiness. It's the sound I've been after for years.
