The first time I tried that configuration, several months ago, I considered it a failure because the woofer pumps the guitar speaker at low frequencies and could theoretically drive it into over-excursion without the guitar speaker doing anything on its own. I've since figured out how to address that issue, but I'm not ready to give out my "fix", sorry.

No worries, I wouldn't expect you to - it's important to protect your intellectual property - the devil's in the details!

We'd be happy to ship to the UK. Actually, this cab is good as far as shipping. We can just fit it into a box that is accepted by the USPS---about half the price of shipping by Fedex.

Woah - really?? That's great news - I didn't realize that!

Ahem... what I meant to say is, why yes of course, I planned it that way all along...

Pics of a just completed 212---custom color.
40 lbs on the button
The new grills aren't available yet----soon. I'd be happy to drill them out for fasteners at no charge if someone wants to replace one on one of my cabs.

This is my favorite TC so far. A bit more midrange but not too much---just right. With no port plugs---I really like the low end. Deeper than the TC112 but a bit more focused than the TC115.
It doesn't sound as ruler flat as the TC112 or 15 but still very hifi--and maybe a bit more functional for my taste.

That cab in blue with the new grills tops my wish list, fantastic work Mike and Duke!!!!

Mike you have a PM!

Totally Stoked!

Mike, Cabinet, Dimensional configuration and color looks sweet!
Looking forward to putting my Alembic bridge pickup signal, or running full range through that beast.

You guys are into some sick stuff. Wow, interesting. I've been a '4x10 tweeter' guy for a very, very long time. Subscribed.

That TC212 looks sweet. How much does it weight?

The TC212AF that I took to Boise clocked in at 48 pounds, so probably 47 pounds without the rear-firing tweet and accompanying crossover board. Mike's composite build came in at 40 pounds(!).

Not to be a dick- but are the sonic benefits really that great, above a high- quality 4x10??

I've got a Golight 4x10 that sounds very, very good, and it weighs 54 lbs.
Yes it's bulky, the midrange dispersion isn't the best, but it does really sound very good, and is very loud.
Am I really missing out? I'm serious.

I truly think that there are. Let's forget the weird dispersion and midrange anomalies for now. In terms of tonal balance top to bottom nothing touches the Thunderchildren. And their dynamic range and functionality is really astounding.

Good question! Unfortunately, your question is probably better than my answer is going to be.

I think that, in theory at least, my 212 cab does some things better than some good 410s, but it depends on what you're looking for. My cab would need more power to reach the same SPL, but then my cab can generally take more power than a 410 before fartout. Whether you'd prefer the tone of my cab or not, I can't really say. I aim for a fairly smooth native tonal balance, and then you have to EQ in the voicing you want. My cabs probably do a better job than most 410s as far as uniform horizontal dispersion goes, so that more of the room hears the same thing. And my optional rear-firing tweeter makes it easier for your drummer to hear what you're doing.

If your 410 just has the tone you're looking for, then that outweighs any theoretical advantages I might claim.

If anyone out there has compared my TC115 with a good 410, that might shed some light. The TC212 is about the same efficiency as the TC115, but can handle twice the power, so it can go about 3 dB louder.

That I totally agree on Mike. I really love my TC15wAF. I read your review of the TC212 but I am so happy with what I got that I am even more interested with another 15 or 12. It really is the most surprising sounding 15 i have ever heard (Ruler Flat as you say). Great sound across the whole spectrum. I love the way it looks to. Surprisingly the 212 doesn't look like a bass cabinet. Please don't think I mean ugly but rather very different looking than what i am use to seeing in a bass cab. Maybe a wide body would make it look different, not sure. Again, I'm not meaning anything negative.

The 2x12, i played it in boise, was more musical to my ears than my gk mbe410 (the only thing i've had close to a golight). It felt like it would get as loud if not louder. We didn't push it as loud as i wanted to hear it get. It projected out into the room better too.

Very nice cab I must say. Duke designs some very cool stuff. The Hathor 1544 sounded very good in the mix at the AZ GTG a couple of weeks ago.

Thank you very much, Syco! Sorry I missed that GTG, sounds like it was an amazing event.

That may be the best way i have ever seen a designer answer that type of question! To the point no BS and no ego i like that!

In my experience, the Thunderchild 15 will compete with 4x10s. Little more power handling, little less sensitivity.

In reality very few 4x10s have a calculated sensitivity greater than 98db or so, unless they are giving up tons of lows to get it. If you see a 4x10 rated higher than 100db you can be pretty much assured it'll be -3db at 80hz at the absolute best. That's a huge sacrifice for a 5 string player.

* My experience has been that the extra midrange energy on paper for cabinets with side by side woofers is nowhere near as much as you would expect looking at the specs of a single driver.
