audition question

I'm auditioning for a band in a 2 song youtube video. if they like that then were going to meet in person for a real face to face jam session for the final vote. sort of like american idol type crap.
it's a tool tribute band, I have to send them 2 songs. problem is I know like 90% of both songs there are just tricky parts that I can't get! I have my buddy coming over with his mixer and everything to get the best quality audio. question is should I wait to do this and make sure I have the tunes nailed of should I wing it and tell them it's a work in progress.

Oh, and what's up with the "Americal Idol" comparison? Why do they want to do that? Is Simon going to tear you up if you make a mistake?

If someone compared their audition process to that of American Idol's, I'd have second thoughts about trying out with them at all.

Hates American Idol-ses. Hates it, my preciousssss!!!

You Tube Audition?? Personally, I would not want to play with a bunch of people I have never met, but sweated my A$$ off to make a recording. After a phone call or two, There should be a get together and play. Kind of strange IMHO!:eyebrow:

I compared it to american idol. it was my idea because I don't feel like luggin my gear 25 minutes away to play for 5 minutes them tell me "ehh, we need someone more advanced" and pack up and leave. I worked on the song aenema by tool last night. after only knowing the intro I learned the whole thing last night except for 2 sketchy parts. I know I could do the gig I just don't want them to pick someone else up before I dot my i's and cross my t's

Oh. That wasn't clear in your post.

Work on the sketchy parts tonight and tomorrow. Do your video on Friday, and post it as soon as you have it. That way, you give yourself time to learn the difficult passages sufficiently, without taking too long and losing the gig.

I get to pick the songs, I don't have any effects so that limits me. I picked aenima and I think I'm going to go with the pot for the other one. yes I play them with a pic and drop D:smug:
any suggestions of easier songs??
if I get the gig I will buy the effects but I'm not going to spend all that money for a maybe

what part are you having trouble with? I find the hardest part of AEnima to be the first verse with the chords. I believe it was actually played with a bass tuned D-A-D-A, which would make it so easy, but I never tune like that. I just play the first chord and then do the hammer ons on one string. Sounds good enough for rock and roll. I suppose just to do one audition you could tune like that.
