Has anyone tried this mic? I heard a very good bass player using one at a club. It sounded very good so I bought one (they are only 100 bucks). My plan is to use it at some clubs as my signal to the house, while using my amp as a stage monitor with the pickup going through it (that is what the bass player I heard was doing). Iwas also wondering, can I use just the mic through my amp (Iamp 800)? I have read some of the newbie links but a search yielded me no info on the I-5 mic. I think the mic has "phantom power" but I don't know what that is. The manual said it sounds best with low impedance input, but I don't know what that means either. Would I need a preamp to use in the house or through my amp? ALso, if anyone has used this mic how did you mount it? Any help would be very helpful.

Hi Joel. To use a dynamic mic with your amp (if it has only got jack inputs), get hold of an impedance converter. This connects onto the opposite end of the mic cable from the microphone, and looks like an XLR to 1/4" jack converter but longer.

Then you can give the sound guy a DI from your iAmp. I do this with my iAmp 500 and Sennheiser e906. A preamp would definitely help the sound, but is it worth the hassle?

As far as mounting the mic goes, there are plenty of good threads covering this topic. Search for H-clamp too. Good luck!

If you need to send a mic phantom power you also need to get the signal back to the amp and a mic preamp with phantom power is the only practical way to do that. If the mic we're talking about here is an Audix i5 then it's a cardioid mic that doesn't need phantom though. Is this the mic we're talking about?: Invalid Link Removed

Do you have the opportunity to take a lesson with the guy you saw and pick his brain on how he used his? Also bug any and all good audio guys you can. They think we're a bunch of idiots (often with some reason) and will give you advice out of self defense.
