AUSTRALIANS...

where the hell can i get pedullas in Australia. I live on the Sunshine Coast, and lets be honest, it has nothing going for it music wise. So I looked in Brizzy and cant find a dealer there. The places i've called in Sydney and Melbourne are all so no-go's. I've heard theres a really good guitar shop in (R)adelaide who can order in anything at a decent price, but i've no idea what its called or where it is. So where can i get a Pedulla in Australia???

If you know what you want order one directly from the US or find one used on TB and have it shipped. They are not particuarly "expensive" on the used market as they don't hold their value well and with the AUD quite strong you should be able to pick one up for around $1000 USD. You may not even have to pay import charges if its under $1000 AUD!

For example:

Are both for sale for around $1000. Shipping to AUS is usually under $200USD, you can ship for around $100 if you separte the neck and body. Basically, you should be spending about $1200USD all up to get one into your hands in Aus. $5000 is laughable.

There's Bass Centre down here in Melbourne, I've forgotten whether they do shipping around the country but here's the site:

If they don't stock whatever, then they might be able to order one just for you at a reasonable price.
I've sorta asked for a quote on a Warwick Jazzman Streamer, and they told me something like, they'll get it made in Germany and gave me a price around $3500-4000. Pretty cool!

probably a combo of that and limited competition. if all the shops sell the products for roughly the same price then what can you do?

and as its a massive country the 'big' music shops are few and far between, which doesn't help much. Where i live on the sunshine coast there's really only 2 shops worth visiting, and one of them is a nationwide chain so their prices dont really vary.

+1

Getting someone to ship a neck detached bass to you there in AUS will be worth it. Even if it goes over $1000, and you need to pay some customs, it's way cheaper to go used.

Hey I'm the Manager of Bass People in Sydney and yes we are the australian distributor of Pedulla as well as many other boutique basses that until we opened hadn't been available for people to see in the flesh in Australia.

With all our exclusive lines we aim to be within 10% of what the cost of importing the item directly from the manufacturer is.
To this end we have what we call a Dynamic pricing policy which means that we price our exclusive bass brands as to what the replacement cost would be - not the historical cost. PM for more info if you want it.

With our display basses we generally get them fairly optioned up so we can show people what is possible with a particular luthier - this means that the basses we have in stock are at the higher end of the range for that model - more options = more $. the converse applies.

There are many factors that influence pricing of music gear in australia that has been dealt with on here in depth many times so I wont get into that.

The Pedulla in Question is the RBT model with a AAA grade top and it includes the hardcase.

As per our Dynamic pricing policy this bass is $4790.

For a bass that has a US Price of $4420USD, to me $4790AUD seems like a pretty decent price especially considering our price includes shipping and customs and GST and all those other things you would be up for with the private import.

Apologies if anyone feels I'm out of line but i figured that since we were being spoken about, I should offer the other side of the coin :-)

Joel
