Authentic vintage Fender?

Could they make Fenders any less consistent with their ID's? Local sale ad posts a '76 P bass for sale with "Crazy paint job." "If this were all original it would go for 1400." That struck me a little funny, but the guy has some nice gear for sale. A couple of guitars. A nice Stringray. It's a pawn shop. So the number on the neck plate denotes a '77. Tuners look right. Bridge does not. Concerned about a body swap maybe? Could just be a replacement bridge. Wondering what people with more experience than me think about it.
