Avalon U5 vs. Retrospec Squeeze Box

This is a stupid thing...
I'm not actually wondering which one is better.

Just wanna know what do you prefer, why, etc...

A restrospec landed - really - in my hands 6 months ago (I'm sure it was a gift form above )
Right now, I'm using a rack rig (avalon + soundtech ps802), but sice I should be entering the studio in the next months, I wanna hear some opinions.

The U5 hand down!!! I've never used the Sqeeze box, but it seems like a total different animal than the U5. Compressor vs. DI??

I'm back...sorry for the short answer up above, I had to do something really quick.
The U5 is great for getting a super clean, uncolored tone. I have one parked in my studio and it's never going anywhere. I used to use it in my live rig and then found that I really love it for recording. I guess if you want a colored sound maybe try the squeeze box or maybe get a Tech 21 Bass driver DI. All of the bass tones on the recordings I have posted were done through the Avalon U5.

You can use the retrospec for DI.
Maybe I'll go bass>U5>retrospec...

Guess I'll have to give it a try...

I'd also suggest try everything and anything, you might stumble of the holy grail of tone by really unconventional ways.

I have a MXR M-80, maybe it'll do the trick if I deslike the retrospec sound.

I'll do a search to try to find other recordings you may have posted.

FYI-The first two songs on my MySpace, not the x-mas songs, were all done with the U5. The guitars and basses went straight into the Avalon.

Thanks Andy, I really appreciate it!!!! I think trying different things is key. Maybe one thing won't work for a particular song but it will work for another one, and you can always delete and do over. Have you thought about getting a different pre-amp for your live rig? I use the Fender TBP-1 with a QSC power amp and it sounds killer, and I've used it for recoding, and it sounds great, very different than the U5.

Every time I go on a session I bring the Avalon. It is very good on bass because the first harmonic is really there.

I've never used the U5 live, but I'm planning to do so.
I use it with a soundtech ps802 poweramp.
