Yes. I listened to the more experimental music like Beefheart when I was young. But I usually like smoother stuff now. It just depends on my mood.
For those that like this sort of outside music, this is a treasure trove of avant-garde and experimental music.

I wouldn't call that A-G, but maybe the birth of goth, perhaps. While it's been covered quite a bit, which I think is pointless, there's a newer rendition…
The part was based on a practice exercise, but I can see how his time with LaMonte Young and their drone experiments came into play…

Just something as simple as a drone can make an ordinary song sound strange if it's not done in the normal context. It really doesn't take much, just a minimalist approach sometimes.

Very interesting. I can tell that it must have influenced Sonic Youth. Thanks for posting.
Lee Ranaldo and Thurston Moore met while playing in Branca's electric guitar orchestra, at least that is the story. Page Hamilton of Helmet, and Michael Gira of Swans (amongst many others) also played with Branca.
Lou Reed did MMM for the sole purpose of getting RCA to tear up his contract. People hated it, reviewers trashed it and it didn't sell. Mission accomplished!
I could imagine him laughing maniacally and flipping the bird at RCA.

I'm a huge John Zorn fan. There's no way to pick a favorite, but I'd say this: lots of people know his earlier stuff like Naked City, Painkiller, etc, but IMHO he's been at the top of his game for the past 10 years or so. Any of his newer music is worth hearing, and he puts out a lot of it. Some of it is quite accessible and melodic, and some of it is the weirdest stuff you'll ever hear.
