I'm running an Ashdown ABM500 through an Avatar 410 and have recently experienced a lot of distortion and buzzing from the cab. The noise issues were so bad that I disconnected the tweeter, which helped a bit, but anything lower than an open A sounds like a fuzz pedal. The head is 575 watts, but I rarely have the input/output knobs past 12 o'clock.
I love the character of the Avatar - it's got a lot more punch than any Ampeg 10's I've played and the distortion actually has its own benefits, but there are times when I need a really clean sound and just can't get it. The distortion is obviously worse when I run a Fulltone bass drive and/or the Ashdown's sub-octave generator.
Any thoughts? New cab with more speakers, like 6 or 8 10's? Has anyone had similar problems?
Here's the gear:
