I have a pair of Avatar B210 'specials' that I scored off ebay the past year. They are loaded with the eminence made swr golights (that came stock with the Marcus Miller 4x10 cab). I'd like to maybe try some basslite s2010 drivers in one of the cabs but can only find 8ohm drivers?? I want to keep this an 8 ohm cab so I'd need either 4 or 16 ohm drivers (depending on how I wired them). Do these exist? My thinking is that while I don't have a problem with the golights, they have a very deep bass tone capability that I'll usually eq alot of that out. If one cab was loaded with something that had more high mid snap to it? That would be more versatile (in either running one cab, the other or both). I'm running either a GB shuttle 6.2 or Carvin BX500 on top. Suggestions?
Stuff the vents with some mattress topper or foam rubber. Those drivers were meant to be s ewe aled. Do it now!
Wow, you are absolutely right. I just stuffed the vents with a blanket and it sounded very tight. Pulled out the blanket and its very deep and boomy. So what drivers? Where can I find some 4 or 16ohm basslite s2010s? I like the sound of those and they seem a perfect match for this cab. I need this cab to stay at 8 ohms. Thanks.
There really arent any. Nothing with that kind of sound in 4 or 16 ohms. Do you find the S2010's brighter than the golite drivers?
Definitely tighter sounding. They just sound very nice. I need to do something about the drivers in this cab, I should have done more research, admittedly. I'm not gigging a cab stuffed with mattress foam. Where can I find a driver for this cab that sounds nice, fat and tight with a good upper mid response?
You just need to make a well-fitting plug, covered in black carpet or painted, for the ports like I show on page 2 of this thread: http://www.talkbass.com/threads/avatar-sb112-port-tuning-too-high.725867/page-2 Good luck, Bob
If the cabinet has to be 8 ohms, I think there's the eminence bp102-4 and the delta 10 has a 16 ohm model. The bp102 definitely won't get you upper mids but the delta might work
I was thinking that the Faital neo 10s might be a good fit but I don't know. What do you think? In the meantime, I found Bob's modification thread pretty interesting and I'll experiment with that some.
Thanks Paul. I did send him an email but probably won't get a response til Monday. I wanted to float it here because you guys are pretty smart.
Well I've experimented a bit. I've covered half the port on both cabs and the whole port on both cabs. I'm gonna go with one cab sealed and the other as is for now. Won't get to gig it til the 16th but in my music room there is a definite improvement. Sealed cab on top of the un "modded" cab (vert. stack). I've got a picture of the unfinished mod. Its just a 1x2 cut to fit. Its a loose fit now but once I cover it in black felt it will fit pretty snug.
Ok here it is, one cab plugged and the other left alone. Just stapled some black felt to a 1x2 and tapped it in. Its a tight fit, I'll need to drill the plug and put a screw or something in there to pry it out but otherwise as bob said, totally reversible. Now I have a deep bass capable cab and a nice tight snappy cab. I can use one or the other or both. Thanks to you guys.
