Power isn't the only factor in the equation of volume. Speakers and how efficient(SPL or Sound Pressure Level rating per watt at 1 meter distance) they are can be all one needs. For instance an SPL rating of 102db will put out more volume than one rated 95 or say 98 db. Another thing I look at is XMAX (extended voice coil travel). For instance one Delta speaker has an XMAX of 2.5mm while the Kappalite LF Neo is 9.2mm which is quite high. This means the voice coil can move further to produce a low tone on the Kappalite LF than a standard delta. In addition you must look at frequency response rating (will this speaker produce the range of tones I need). You can kill a speaker with too much power but if the power is too little and you have to increase it to the point you get distortion that can kill a speaker also by overheating the voicecoil. I would want an amp and speaker combination that I didn't have to run over 2/3 full power to achieve the sound level required.

Fair question. I'm likely to upgrade to a higher power SS amp in the near future (likely a GK 700RB=II) but want to keep this particular speaker configuration. The 210 is rated at 500 watts and the Delta 12LFA upgrade to the 112 would give it a 500 watt rating (up from 250 watts) as well as a flatter response down to well below 50 Hz. It is a little less efficient than the Deltalite 12, though.

I have Delta 12LFs in two cabs, 1x12 and 2x12, excellent choice!

i am really intrested in buying a avatar 4 x 10 with the ceramic. i am currently playing through a hartke lh1000. i probably wont be adding an extra cab so i was wondering whether i should go with a 4 ohm or a 8ohm? the hartke bridged runs 750 watts @ 8 ohms and 1100 watts @ 4 ohms. the last cab i had was a cheap behringer and all the speakers have been cracked. supposedly the beringer was rated to run 1200 watts @ 4 ohms. while i know behringer makes inferior equipment, i wanted to make sure that the avatar would give me a real long life.

so the question is, should i go with a 8 or a 4 ohm? i dont want the lh1000 to destoy another cabinet.

Cranking an lh1000 is a problem form most single cabinet solutions. Avatar is far better than Behringer, but you still cannot load the full power as specified by Avatar without causing problems. If you're not cranking it and/or pushing the low B string hard, the Avatar can hold up and sound good at high volume. But again, if you're really pushing it, a 4x10 just may not be enough. Perhaps you need a Schroeder or a Fearful.

so i think im going to get the 8 ohm avatar ceramic so the hartke will be pushing 750 instead of 1000 watts at 4 ohms and going to be concious of volume control.

any other thoughts on using the single 4 x 10 avatar along with the lh1000?

Even if the speakers would take 1000 watts it is not good to drive the amp at full power.

One other thing I thought of but forgot to mention was that your amp has a passive tone control section. Typically, "flat" in a passive tone stack is in the 2/10/2 area of Bass/Middle/Treble control settings. This means that as you turn up the bass knob from almost anything from full off, you're boosting low end which will cause you to drive the power amp and your speakers harder.

Hi All,

I've been reading about Avatar cabs, and was wondering if anyone could help me what the tones are like?

How does the 210 sound as compared to either an Aguilar GS or DB series 210? I'm typically a 10 guy, but have had GS & DB 112's... Trying to keep my next overall rig size smallish w/a Microhead like a ToneHammer 500.

Hey I just received my avatar 410neo and 212 neo and all I can say is wow. I use a little mark 3 and a fender longhorn jazz with the original pos bridge and flatwounds and I cannot get a bad tone out of this rig. Nicely done avatar. With the VLE control I can pretty much get an old ampeg fridge if I want it. I will never buy another brand of cabs as long asyou are around...Now for the perfect 6 string fretless.

The Fedex guy delivered my b210 prototype this morning (got it off ebay; it has celestion speakers instead of the usual eminence). I didn't hear the knock, but my dogs did, which confused me. My eyes were all bleary, so I thought it was 6:20 in the morning. It was actually 8:20, but I had the day off so I was hoping to sleep in.

It's a little too early to fire it up and take it for a spin, but I'm excited. It's my first real cab. I'm pairing it with a used Ashdown Mag 300h. This should be a nice step up from my Vox 25 watt practice combo.

Time to schedule some jam sessions with some drummers...
