just hopthetically speaking, what kinds of violations could get you banned for a month? hypothetically of course... i want to make sure that i dont get banned for anything. so in theory, what would one have to do or not do in order to get banned or not banned?

Don't disrespect other members regardless of how much they tick you off. Just report it to a mod and click out of the thread.

Saves a BIG headache and you stay out of the penalty box.

No one wins an internet argument.

From the Thread I referred to earlier, post #248:

Thank you Stuart. You are not violating any rules.

We had held off explaining the infraction system as if people know all the details it can be gamed to an extent. However, this situation has made it clear we need to explain exactly how the system works even if we don't divulge the precise point algorithms used. We will be doing this in the very near future, and most likely posting a forum wide announcement so people can view this now and in the future.

And now, we return you back to your regular JimmyM programming :)

Hope the Mods come through with this soon.

Be patient with me but this is a great time to ask another question...

What is stickies? I see the tab, but don't know- thanks

No sweat man, a sticky thread is one which the admin (or mod I think?) can put at the top of all the threads, and it never gets lost. So even when new threads are posted, the sticky ones will always be on top. They usually contain really useful info.

BTW didn't mean to come off as impatient or anything :D

speaking as someone who mods a forum myself and has modded and administered forums for a while, for a living, I really am surprised at this. Jimmy is someone who is opinionated yes, but generally circumspect as well.
The closing of every thread that inquires about the status of this member is not very professional. One skill that every moderator needs to have in their toolkit is "De-escalation".
You control the levers of the forum yes, but dont get power happy.
I was going to cancel my supporting membership anyway. This just seals it.

they're closing the threads that ask about the situation? thats pretty stupid. jimmy is a very well known member here and people would be naturally curious as to what happened to him. i had several questions i recently wanted answered, and i knew that he would have known the answers. i specifically seek him out on several topics, and now i have no way to contact him, so, to wonder and to inquire as to where he is would only seem natural. im sure im not the only one who feels that way.

The fact that you guys are posting in a thread that was started 10 days ago suggests that they are not closing every thread on the subject.
