Avoid obsidianwire at all costs

Hello, I’m not sure whether or not anyone will be affected by this post or not but at this point, I don’t have any other option other than expressing my deep remorse for having spent almost $200 on a PC board that never arrived. I am trying to update the electronics in an old Gibson, Les Paul custom I have. The wiring is basically shot so I just looked online for other options and came across the obsidian wire PC board. After reading a lot of good reviews I went ahead and just purchased it. Seems like it would’ve just arrived and after installation, I would’ve been here to leave an awesome review as well but that’s not what happened. Let me start by saying that I don’t profit anything by leaving this review. I don’t gain anything, in fact, I actually lose precious time out of my life by doing so. Time is the most precious commodity on the planet. This is what happened. I purchased the order about a month ago. I immediately got a confirmation email stating that they would let me know when the item shipped through email. About five days past and I got a notification saying that the order shipped. I tracked the package and it said that it was in Grand Rapids, Michigan almost a month ago. I noticed after about nine days that there was no movement on the package. It was still saying, Grand Rapids Michigan. I sent obsidian wire an email to their customer service. Just letting them know that the package was stuck in transit. Nobody got back with me. I waited about a week, hoping that the package would arrive, maybe it was just backed up, but I sell items online and I know that this is just a fantasy. I ship items all over the country. Every single day and items should never stay at the same USPS location longer than a day or two. Three days is really, really dragging it. A week, never. That item is either lost or has been misplaced. We are going on a month and the item has shown no movement as far as shipping. I contacted the company again last week but to no avail. They won’t even give me the simple courtesy of a response message for my hard earned money. I don’t wanna be treated any better than anyone else, but if there’s anything in the world I can’t stand, It’s being ignored when trying to make contact with any business customer service. especially when there are so many other options out there, and so many other companies who are more than willing to treat their patrons with the simple courtesy of a response message. Here we are a month after the purchase and I still have not received anything at all. Not a message from the company. Not a shipping notification. Nothing. I can’t even open up a service request with USPS on the package because I’m not the person who sent the package. I don’t have the sender’s personal information. As I said before, this is an unbiased review and I don’t benefit anything by leaving this review, but I just want to hopefully shed some light into an unfortunate situation in order to prevent others from having to deal with a sore experience. It’s a huge letdown for me. I have my new pick ups and all of my other new upgrades in my guitar, but it is absolutely worthless if it can’t produce sound. I’ve been without a guitar for over a month now and if you’re into getting ignored, treated as if you’re nonexistent, and receiving absolutely nothing for your hard earned money, proceed with obsidian wire. Because if it can happen to me, it can happen to you as well. And if they get away with it with no recourse, they probably will continue to treat their customers as if they don’t matter. I’m sure for every bad review. They have 50 other people who are willing to jump to their defense because their experience was different but this is my advice to you, take it or leave it. Be wise, take heed, explore other options. Honestly, Do everything else in the world but shop with obsidianwire…

TLDR ;
It's unfortunate Obsidian hasn't at least responded.

File a missing package report with USPS. Missing Mail and Lost Packages | USPS (it's easier if you have informed delivery)
USPS has been noticeably worse since June; It seems as though they have changed their routing/distribution.

as mentioned above; dispute the charge with you payment method; Credit card, Paypal, etc.

Yet here you are wasting your fellow TB’ers time with a long winded and hard to read rant about a package being late?

Regarding ObsidianWire: Earlier this year, I wrote them an email asking about the output jack in a prewired kit I bought, and they answered the next day (a Sunday!).

You as the recipient can look into your package. Actually, I urge you to do as sometimes is means you get people looking for your package… relying on the person who sent it to you to look into it is… kind of irresponsible.

The only time the sender has to intervene is if you’re trying to do an insurance claim and you can’t do an insurance claim until you’ve filed for a lost package and they don’t find it.

I didn’t see that you filed for a lost package?

I also see you state you got a shipping notification and then you state you didn’t get a shipping notification… I’m not sure I follow.

I immediately got a confirmation email stating that they would let me know when the item shipped through email. About five days past and I got a notification saying that the order shipped. I tracked the package and it said that it was in Grand Rapids, Michigan almost a month ago.

It obviously shipped, Obsidian is based out of New Zealand. Being that it stopped movement in Michigan (if I follow, 5 days after the order… sounds pretty fast) then I’d be trying to see if it could be located since it definitely hit the sort facility in question.

Also, being that they are located in New Zealand, is it possible they are on holiday? Usually lasts about a month, much like Australia and UK etc.

Not cool to not get a message back, but nowhere in your post didn’t you state you did your due diligence as the buyer. If you did, should probably state it in the huge paragraph?

Start by having your package looked for and filing a missing package report, that way when they do get back to you (if) you’re prepared to get it taken care of instead of having to follow process either way.

As mentioned you could dispute the charge with your payment method but, this is a post office issue not the sellers, until it’s needed to be an insurance claim, you don’t know that yet though… I’d never wait that long to check into my package.

Oh just waking up can someone punctuate all that. It looks like ants running around. As for a rewire. 4 pots and 2 caps. On a standard easy peasy and kinda cheap, add a jack and a switch. On a LP there is either a short length or long length switch. Best of luck.

Not worth the reformatting. tl;dr: The package is late, not ObsidianWire's fault.

Btw. I forgot to mention that I am very happy with my OW P-bass wiring harness.

OK, so, a user registered just today, only to complain about a transaction about an Obsidianwire harness for an electric guitar...

OK, I'll play along...I've bought 5 Obsidianwire harnesses in total for my electric guitars since 2019. None of these were bought directly from them since they are in NZ and I am in the EU.

Every single pre (questions regarding compatibility, dimensions etc) and aftersales contact was 100% positive.

In fact in one of these, one of the pots gave up the ghost fairly quickly. I contacted them directly (and not the store I bought it from) and they sent me a new one, free of charge.

Sold 3 of them (I was experimenting with different setups), the other two are still in two of my strats and they work as they should.

So, there you have it...

Gave up trying to read this. Looks like one long sentence for these old eyes. Next time break up a post, easier to read. Good luck with your issue.

Oh, I missed that. Again.

Wouldn't it be great if a newly registered user's username had a different color (maybe green) for the first week or so, so that they can be immideatly recognized?

This could also help with AI generated threads that are just started to give a fresh account some credibility for later spamming or fraudulent behavior in the classifieds.

I second this motion...

Some forums have a probationary period where the user can't post for a certain period of time, or has to participate in other ways...like fill out some of the profile, reply to [insert number] of threads first, or upload an avatar.

I know some of that may be a pain, but the amount of AI and trash threads it would curb might end up being easier for the Mods in the long run.

USPS has been noticeably worse since June; It seems as though they have changed their routing/distribution.

Coincidentally, I did a Google search this morning due to the unusual amount of USPS delays and weird routing of packages I've experienced the past 2 months. And while I did receive these packages - it was only after an extra week or more of bouncing around the country.
(As a result - I likely will use UPS ground for the time being - and request the same (if possible) for any incoming shipments. Not that much of a $ diff.)

Then, out of curiosity inquired specifically about MI.

So here's another TLDR (& PSA) POST:

The recent USPS package delays / unusual routing across the country are the direct result of massive, ongoing changes to the postal network.
Under the current phases of the Delivering for America modernization plan, the Postal Service has been shutting down local sorting facilities and consolidating operations into massive Regional Processing and Distribution Centers (RPDCs).
Instead of a package moving efficiently between neighboring cities, it is now routinely routed hundreds of miles backward to a mega-hub.
If that hub faces a backlog, tracking data freezes, and the package gets sent on an inexplicable loop through multiple states before finally tracking toward its destination. The agency has even intentionally lowered its on-time delivery targets to account for these systemic logjams.

Michigan is currently experiencing massive, systemic USPS mail and package delays affecting the entire state, from Metro Detroit to the Upper Peninsula.
Multiple regions are experiencing weeks-long delays due to specific local issues:
1. The Southwest Crisis (Kalamazoo Area)
The situation is worst in Southwest Michigan, where thousands of residents have gone weeks without mail.
A recent congressional probe revealed that management at the Kalamazoo Sorting and Delivery Center has been explicitly instructing postal carriers to completely stop delivering standard mail and exclusively deliver packages.

The local post office became so severely understaffed and backlogged that postal workers were literally breaking down in tears to congressional representatives over the toxic workplace conditions.

2. The Southeast Delays (Metro Detroit)
The Detroit region is frequently tracking as one of the slowest mail markets in the country. Recent implementation phases of the Delivering for America consolidation plan have caused packages to sit for days inside major sorting facilities. Federal lawmakers have launched formal inquiries because constituents are waiting over a week just to get time-sensitive bills and medication.

3. The Upper Peninsula Logjam
Further north in Dickinson and Marquette counties, residents have reported empty mailboxes for weeks at a time. A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request recently forced the USPS to release hundreds of pages of local delivery complaints, pointing to a severe breakdown in regional truck routing and processing.

EDIT:
I'll add that our small-town local post office and our (rural) carriers have been great - gong above & beyond - despite the broader "systemic" issues.
