Double Bass Avoiding Arthritis, Tendonitis, etc.

In all athletic endeavors, into which bass playing definitely falls, we are getting away from specific stretching of cold muscles, and the new thinking is pointing towards progressive, structured, activity specific warm ups.

eg. if you are going to run for exercise, start by walking, adn increase your speed slowly until you are running. 5 minutes or so. Same with bass. Start by playing very softly, with simple shift that don't require too many hand acrobatics and slowly increase until you are warmed up. 5 minutes or so.

Simple attention to a warm up, and most importantly, listening to your body when it tells you something wrong will keep you playing for years.
