Awesome and underrated cover songs.

We all have 'Hurt', 'Tainted Love', 'Hallelujah' and all those kindsa big faves on lock.

No, friends I neglect and acquaintances I barely tolerate, I'm talking about those really cool cover songs lurking in the wings that deserve way more recognition. Whatcha got?

Let's get this soiree started. The movie was not to my taste, but it was worth the price of admission to hear Sigrid making Cohen her most affecting own on the soundtrack:

Ooh yeah.

Most underrated cover song, played correctly, is Sweet Home Alabama. That song has some fun stuff going on, if yer playing it right.

I've actually had bass players come up to me and ask me why my bass line to Sweet Home is "so busy". My response? "Sir, I literally play it note for note exactly like the recording. Go back and listen to it again." It's a fun song if you play it right. I've never seen another bass player live who does. Gimme Three Steps is even more complicated and fun.

Your both absolutely correct. I've heard more butchered versions of those songs than any others I can think of. Had to sit through an awful version of Sweet Home this week. Sheesh. Even the "hard" bass lines are easy. Seems like laziness just rules the day.

On this note, Jamiroquai's 'Virtual Insanity' is my Moby Dick. What is Stu Zender even doing in this track?
