Back-Friendly and Comfortable Practice Chair

I wasn`t quite sure which forum this should go in so if it doesn`t belong here I would greatly appreciate it if any of our benevolent Moderators would move it.

I just picked up this great leather and wood chair from my local Marshall`s retail store and I`m delighted with how it feels against my (usually) aching back and how it looks in general.Fancier than I was looking; and with an original pricetag of $69.99.I did the waiting game and eventually it was discounted to $49.99 (but was the last one!). The thing I love about this chair is the firm back which is more orthopedic/eronomically correct than any generic chair I have ever sat in. The seat is ample enough to be comfy without being plush. Needless to say the chair does not have arms. A huge improvement over the painfully spartan metal folding chair that I was using during my seated practice/playing sessions prior to this.

Nice, actually looks like furniture, which is a plus if your practice space is in a common area. For some reason the wife doesn't like the Roc-Soc drum throne I use being kept in the dining room. Way more pricey than a Marshall's score, but FANTASTIC in the spine and butt padding, and many have adjustable lumbar supports. Usually around $180 or so delivered for a decent one.

I sink back and slouch in the middle of my couch when I practice with my bass up against my chest. good or bad? (rhetorical question, I'm a sucker for comfort)

Chair? I practice standing up as that is how I gig.

Nice! My dad has had a Sig P230 in .380ACP for like the past 15 or so years. Stainless with a Houge grip. Truly a jot to shoot, your's is purdy too

IMO, a good "playing chair" needs to be a tad higher than the typical dining table chair. One of my favorites is a casino slot machine chair. Naturally the casino wants the player to stay, so the chairs are pretty comfortable, and most have a few inches of extra height.

You are right on that point,lbwdog. If this chair was a mere 2-3 inches higher it would be perfect. I`ll generally prop up my right foot on a thick book to compensate. This dang chair sure is a dream on my back though.

I've been wanting to buy a "practice chair/stool" for at least...oh twenty years now. I really need one now as I've gotten (a lot) older and my back is not what it used to be. I currently use a furniture type chair very similar to what HosMan bought, but mine has no padded back. I'm considering a drummer-type-throne with a small backrest. Let's make this a big old thread and everyone post their practice chair, especially if it's something out of the ordinary. lf I was home I'd post a pic of a chair that looks very similar to HosMan's...so just imagine I posted a pic.

I use a roc n soc stool both for practice and for live use, not inexpensive but IMHO well worth the price. Invalid Link Removed

Wow! Those are waaaay out of my budget,Giorgetto,but if I ever get to that level where I can play that well(and that long!)I would get one!
