Backline 600 EQ Tips, please?

Hey Everyone! Newbie here to the talk bass forum.

I am using a Backline 600 with a Ampeg 4x10 and Fender Jazz Mex. made. Any one have any EQ suggestions? I guess I am going for a gritty, trebly sound, but clean at the same time for some melodic Punk Rock music. I've messed around with the settings, but I thought I'd get some outside opinions and tips from you guys. I've listed two links below of songs of how I would like my bass to sound. I know the bassists in these bands are using Ampeg SVT heads, but if I can get as close to the sound with the GK, I'm set. Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks! :bassist:

Examples:

First of all, turn that contour knob all the way to the left and rip it off. Unless, of course, your objective is to disappear completely from the band mix. Engage the OD and keep the gain low, turn up the high mid and treble enough to give you the tone you want (but don't over-do it!) if you don't like the character of the amp's drive, you can learn all you need to know about pedal overdrives and distortion in the Effects forum.

Ha! Thanks for the replies, everyone!

I actually don't use that overdrive section. I put the level A knob at about 1 or 2:00. Treble is at 2:00. Low mid at 11. High Mid at 1 or 2. Bass at 11. What should I be doing the with boost and master? May sound like a silly question, but is the level A knob not the main volume knob? I know, such a newwwwwwb.

Appreciate the replies, people!

Hell yes to Bouncing Souls and Off wit their heads! Love their bass sounds.

The "Master" is your "main" volume control. The "Boost" adds 'tube like' harmonics to your sound. The more boost you use, you will need to compensate by lowering the master as it also boosts overall volume. The "Level" knobs set the input volume into the preamps tone section (before the boost and master controls that are the power amp's control).

Thanks for the 411! Much appreciated!

What are your EQ preferences???

Well have owned several G-K amps (not the BL600) I currently use the Fusion 550. I know these guys have said to stay away from the "Contour" but it may be needed for that sound. The thing that will get you the closest is using a pick with bridge pickup mostly and sounds like round wounds like Swing Bass 66's.
The cabs voice will be the hardest to overcome.

Your starting EQ sounds pretty close but you may need additional low mid cut. (Note that bass voicing you linked does fall out of the mix pretty easy.)
