Backup suggestions?

Hello. I'm looking for suggestions for a backup bass to travel around with in case my gigging bass goes down. It must be 5 string. Nothing too precious as it will live in the car sometimes. I'm thinking used is appropriate - something of decent quality for under say $300. The Peavey Foundation V seems to me to be a good choice, and I have also played some recent squiers (VM and CV) that were not bad. I'm open on most details except the scale cannot be over 34". Any suggestions appreciated.
