There's more than one school of thought on bridges. If you beleive that more mass is better, than the BAII is the way to go. It's just that pesky saddle filing issue that prevents it from being a no brainer for most people.

The Gotoh 201 is a drop-in replacement (no saddle filing required) but there is one problem I've experienced and heard from others: the G string saddle just doesn't get low enough in some cases, even when bottom'd out. I thought I was alone but someone over at Basslinks.nl said he had the same problem. I worked around it by using the stock Fender barrels on the Gotoh, which were slightly smaller in diameter, but that kinda defeats the purpose, doesn't it?.....

when I re-did my 80s p/j bass(japan)it was a welcomed addition to my bass,all the claims that are listed here were evadent(the good ones)
Now on the other hand when I put one on my H.W.1 j-bass it did'nt make an ounce of difference,coincedence ? I T HINK NOT!
I do alot of up-grades on basses now that I am working on becoming a luthier(I needed to do more than just set-ups)and i have noticed that on p-basses the difference in sound quality seem to be a bit more pronounced when compared to a jazz bass up-graded with the same kind of bridge.
So I believe that on some basses it works better than on others,and I am not alone in my findings,other techs have come across similar findings,does this apply to every p-bass or jazz alike ? HECK NO but my experience has been enuff to convince me that some basses react better than others with like up-grades ,while others sound the exact same as did with its original bridge.
So for what its worth,HAVE FUN !

I actually found a guy from Finland who is selling a BadAssII bridge for 50€! So if it is in proper condition, I'll go for that! It's not a bad price for it IMO especially here in Finland, where everything is too expencive!

If it's used, verify that the bridge hasn't already been slotted to fit on his bass. The slots may not be correct for your bass.

I've used both. Neither one makes *ANY* measurable difference in *ANY* way. That said, The Gotoh looks more stock, weighs less, and is much cheaper than the BAII but there's nothing wrong with a good MIA bridge.

The Hipshots I like 'cause they load from the top. Much easier.

I attack my jazz bass with some serious aggression. With the stock bridge I had some "minor" string buzzing. With the bad ass II I have none.

That's my biggest problem too... I mean I pluck right next to the bridge with some "aggression" to get that funky, sharp sound... The bridge tends to cause some annoying buzzing noise... And the springs of the bridge are too loose too :O

Yup. At the very least the BAII solved the problem on my Jazz.
Whether or not it works for everyone, who knows.

i had one put on my HW1 jazz and it made no difference (that i could hear) to the sound but i as i play with a pick most of the time i tend to rest my right hand on the bridge and the BA2 feels better, less sharp edges. Also i get less rattles from the BA.
just my oppinion.
