I think this is a fantastically beautiful cab, and I'm sure that a lot of you will too.
BUT, I don't think this big mama is ever going to play live show with me, and I think I should practice with the same cab setup I use live, SO I'm entertaining the idea of selling it.

This is a 2x version of the large size Bag End 15" cab:
the S15B-D. See this link for info http://www.bagend.com/bagend/s15b-d.htm

The oiled birch is really cool - much cooler than that carpet covering. It does not appear that Bag End makes 2x15's in their regular production. I got this used and the guy I got it from got it used, so who knows when it was made. The serial number is visible on one of the photos, so that could give a clue (1710). So if you were in the market for a single Bag End S15B-D, here you can get 2 and have it look so much cooler.

The dimentions of this one are:
36" high w/o casters
28" wide
24" deep

It must be 400W/4ohm. I just stuck my cheap digital multimeter on it and it read 3 ohm, but that must be dc and I don't really know the conversion. You can look it up yourself. I figure 400W because those BE 15's are usually 200W.

The sound:
I really like it. Great mids, can put out incredible lows. I've done quite a lot of 15" cab tests lately, and for my tastes, this one is always near the top of the list. Granted, my tastes are a bit odd, but yours might be too. One interesting thing is the dramatic difference in sound when it's on it's wheels or on it's side. It makes sense, but it's also one thing to think about something and another to witness it. If you want to shake the foundation of your house, put it on it's side. You'll loose some of the great mids, but those lows!

And the price. I'd like to get $600 for it. I figure that's just a bit cheaper than a single 15" cab like this would run. I'm not at all interested in shipping it. No way. I have no clue how heavy it is, but it would be a pain and not worth it. I'm in Milwaukee, so all you Chicago and Madison types are the ones who this is for. I'm also not in need of the money, so you won't see me bumping this thread or getting desperate. I have a feeling that I will regret selling this someday because it is really a one of a kind. I wonder how much it would cost to have Bag End make one of these custom today? But I'm starting to feel like I shouldn't horde instruments as much as I have in the past. So if someone around here really wants it, let me know, otherwise I'll keep it and just enjoy it myself when I want to bother the neighbors :p.

PICS:
Front view. The port covers come off with 4 screws.

The Jackplate. The 1/4 inch isn't hooked up, only the bannana plug. It was like that when I got it. I'll give you a speaker cable if you want.

Here you can see the top where the brand is literally branded into the wood, and you can see the scratches it got over the years. I'm sure if cosmetics is your thing you could do some very light sanding and oil it again with walnut oil - that's what they use at the factory.

Here are the port covers. Also double as wall decoration.

Oh god this is tempting, i had an oiled birch 1x15 bag end cab that killed and i sold it to later regret it. This thing would be amazing, alas college students have no funds. BUMP for what should be an amazing cab. By the way, after i sold my 1x15, i asked bag end what it would cost for a birch 2x12..... wait for it $1140.00. Great deal here people.

Wow. If I didn't live halfway across the continent from you, I'd be making serious noise about taking this off your hands.
FYI, I have an S-15 with a similar jack plate, and after calling Bag End and describing the cab to them, the operator I spoke with estimated it to have been made in '74 which would make it one of the earliest cabs to leave the factory.

Very cool! If you still have it whenever I get to Milwaukee next, I'd like to hear it.

Anyone who want's to come by my place to try it (morebass) is welcome. I have a couple of bass heads and also a power amp if you want to just bring a preamp, or bring your head and see what it'll do. Just PM me. I doubt this will be going anytime soon do to the geographic restrictions. And maybe I'll just end up keeping it anyway if I decide I'm crazy to sell it (and I find a nice out of the way place to stow it away...it seems odd to have a BagEnd 2x15 coffee table, but...).

Thanks for the interest everyone and the information about the possible date of manufacutre ( KungFuSherriff). It does seem like a pretty low serial number. Interesting.

When I get home today I'll check the serial on the S-15 I mentioned, and with a little luck may be able to help you zero in on a year. I forgot to mention that Bag End told me their records don't go into detail that far back, so an exact year may be elusive.

That is piece of 70's bass amp history, looks like a killer dub cab! Just for grins, how did you prefer the sound? With one, two, or neither of the port covers?

I honestly only tried it with both on and both off, not one off/one on. I should try that just for fun. I liked the sound better with both off and left it that way. It really depends on what you're trying to do with it though / what else is going on in the ensemble one is playing in. I liked it by itself with both off, but I think that in my band it may be better both on...I only used it a few times at practice and started other experiments after the size of it set in to my brain and I knew I wouldn't use it live!

Mikey - yes, I did pick it up from Chicago.

All this talk about it makes me think selling it is stupid, but I don't know. The idea's out there and we'll see what happens.

You are all going to think I'm nuts, but I'm not using it because I'm now using 2 Yorkville XC115's. I just picked up my second one to make the stack. It doesn't have the low end that the Bag End does, but it does have (to my ear) a very interesting mids and highs presence that'll work well for the styles of music I'm using it for (distorted hard rock in a trio setting). If I was playing dub reggae or something requiring lots of bass or using a 5er, maybe my thoughts would be different.

I'm being quite verbose here - I should just start a different tread to wax philosophic!

Mama Mia! :hyper:
Never seen a double 15 outside of a PA system. That is 70's for sure. I used to run 2 S15B-D's and it is a low end experience. I wonder what it's loaded with? JBL or Gauss I'm bettin'.

The speakers were replaced by the last owner with new BagEnd 15's (see pic). I guess that it had some odd speakers in it when he got it.

Edit:

Oh! I missed posting the speaker pic. Here it is:

Very entertaining posts. If you guys keep chanting like that I'm never going to be able to sell this thing. Just look what it's been reduced to: It's now nothing more than a stand for my basses...

DSCF1270.gif

When I sell it I can add it to the sad list of cool things that have come and gone over the years (SWR baby blue, 70's SVT, old Portaflex B-15...)
I was just reminising about that old SVT of mine. I heard a recording of myself playing thru it and it sounded great. Not only that, but it had a great blonde wood finish and a "WHO '82 Farewell Tour" sticker on it.
I think I suffer from the "I'm never happy with my current sound" syndrome and I'll always just contiune to cycle thru different gear all the time.

I'd suppose some of the people lurking in this forum know what I mean...

So, anyone have an SVT to trade?:p

But what'll I put the SVT into then?..........:ninja:
