Bag End Not "Hi-Fi" enough.

This makes sense. I used to own this cab, and the Coaxial speaker is alot smoother and fatter sounding up top than a typical tweeter. It bridges the gap between classic and modern, but certainly doesn't do the hi-fi clicky slap tone so well.

I think you'd be more satisfied with something from Epifani, GK, or some of the new super cabs (fEARful, Audiokinesis, Acme, etc.)

Yep. If you want clacky high end......get a fEarful!!!! ;)

j/k

I owned a coax Bag End for quite awhile. The one thing I really liked about it was the subdued top end and lack of clack.

Ok, now try what you did with the CD with your bass and see if you can't get something more to your liking.

If it's a whizzer tweeter, it's not really designed for or capable of that sharp, agressive treble like a Goliath or something like that. It's mainly just to extend the upper range of the 10s by a bit.

Usually if I'm using a cab with a tweeter, I have it turned about 1/2 to 3/4 of the way off, and that sounds perfect. I generally go for a sort of vintage/modern or modern/vintage kind of sound. Sort of in the Stanley Clarke/Tony Levin neighborhood. I like a lot of clarity but not harsh.

Honestly, for me, my 15 non tweeter cabs pretty much put me right there most of the time. So I'm guessing you either want a crazy amount of high end, or you just haven't quite gotten the EQ dialed in just yet. Put some fresh strings on your bass (if lots of treble is what you are looking for, fresh roundwounds are always going to be the first step), and play around with the high EQ on your amp, along with the mids (remember, they work together), plus the EQ on your bass. Start with everything set "flat" (which means tone all the way UP on a passive bass), and figure out what you need that aren't getting and what you have that you don't want. And remember that it's easier to take out what you don't want than add what you do. There might be a certain midrange frequency that is getting in the way of the highs you seek.

OP: Looking at one of your early comments - IME SWRs are extremely hi-fi and present, and Bag End is just a different animal. True sounding, but not 'modern.' And will not fare well if you're measuring them against SWR emphasis on exaggerated clarity.

I asked about which Smith bass because I found with a BMT Elite G that there was a world of tone with both the bass and treble controls all the way up. Sounds strange but give it a try.
I made three pro CDs with that Smith but thought that it didn't have the lows or highs I wanted. Then I saw an article about a Nashville session bassist who used his Smith's eq this way.

Unless your's is different from mine. The Q10BXD is a fullrange speaker and only reads signal on 2+ and 2-. You have to have a crossover speakon cable made to use it with an amp putting full range signal out on 1+ and 1-. Not sure how you system is configured but I'm surprised it's working. The tweeter on these is very hi def and clear. My guess is your sending lows on 2+ and 2- and highs on 1+ and 1-. Try a banana plug and see how that works instead.

I talked to the fine gentlemen over at usspeakers and they recommend to me the radian 10" coaxial. I've had it in for about a week now and it sound BEAUTIFUL! It really opened up the cab tremendously! It sounds like a good pair of speakers with really nice bass! I'm rally Jaipur with the cab now, it finally had that modern sound I've between looking for!
