Bag End woes...

OK so I have a bag end Deep Red 2x10 cab with the coaxial speaker. After a show with some higher volumes than usual and sanamp grit I think I blew the coax. The cab sound deep and powerful but no highs and also it has a loud staticy sound when played. Should I use this as a time to possibly throw neo drivers in there and have a nice lightweight ported cab with a higher wattage rating or should I replace the coaxial speaker. The only drawback I can see with just replacing the one speaker is that it is a low wattage cab compared to my schroeder 212 that takes as much as I can hit it with. Thanks for any info you guys are always helpful.-ryan

If I remember correctly, you can replace the horn portion of the coax without replacing the woofer (if in fact it was the horn that blew). You probably just need a diaphragm, which I assume you could purchase directly from Bag End.

Regarding the Neo's, remember that the primary weight savings of a neo cab is the lighter wood that can be used because you don't need the heavy baffle board to hold up the weight of the ceramic magnets. Besided the low probability of replacement speakers working perfectly with a pre-existing cab tuned to work optimally with other speakers, you would probably only save 8 or 9 pounds.

Also, remember that the 1212 is a ported cab also!

IMO.

Edit: I can't remember if there is tweeter protection circuitry on the bagend 'x' models. Check that... you might have just blown a lightbulb or fuse. Finally, usually when you 'blow' a tweeter, there is no sound at all coming from the tweeter. The static tone you were getting makes me believe you might have damaged something in the crossover....
