Haha, I have read on another thread on here that they aren't the best. Either an ON or OFF kind of situation but I'm curious to try one out and had a notion that if I use a couple of springs under the top plate like on a pickup it might have some tensionability (if that's even a word?!!!!!).re: Baldwin Burns Rezo Tube Damper Screws

Ah, I'm just eyeballing the size of the top plate myself tbh and knocking one up for now as a proof of concept idea but if it works as planned I'll be on the, possibly fruitless hunt for an original. I too tried many types of screw thread and finally found that a 4BA seemed to be right but I wanted to see if anyone else knew the correct size and if that was correct?! As I mentioned in a previous reply I'm wondering if a couple of springs under the top plate will give the desired height/pressure adjustment to make the damper a viable proposition?! I'll keep you informed anon!I have a transition era Baldwin Shadows bass with the Burns bridge and pivot plate that the mute screws into. The Burns mute is a slightly different design than the Baldwin.
The Burns model uses M3.5-06 slotted head machine screws 1" in length.
Test the fasteners in your base plate. I tried everything. And I mean everything.
They are not UNC #6-32, UNF #6-40, M3-0.5 (50TPI), M4-0.7 (36TPI), or BSA 5BA.
Nothing fit properly until I realized someone had damaged the threads in the pivot plate.
I retapped the threads in the plate to clean them.
We welcome, ok, I request detailed measurements of the Baldwin mute if you have them. I need to make one. I can estimate lengths from photos, but can only guess at material thickness,
