Band Logos

A logo is a graphic that is simple in design, bold and highly stylized. The more subtle and/or complex, the less it communicates...
If you're serious about developing a logo (a very good idea, IMO), hire a professional graphic designer with specific experience in logo work. Ask to see his/her portfolio. Talk with his/her former clients. Make the investment - it's worth it...

Basically, I am looking for something that will be our identity. Something to put on shirts, our web site, etc... Should it just be our band name in a cool font, etc...
Luckily that was my former job. So I designed ours. I get a lot of compliments on it. I actually used Illustrator CS. Way better program for building logos.

I'm a graphic artist (8 years running), so I guess I fell into the job. Sadly, the rest of the band had a say, so I couldn't do exactly what I wanted, but it turned out well:

It drives me crazy when everyone talks about doing logo's, posters, cd covers etc in photoshop. It's just the wrong tool.
If someone claims to be a designer, and offers to do your logo in photoshop, just walk out there and then (or just get them to do it on paper!), cause they're wasting your time.
I'm not a "real" designer (and fortunatly we actually have on in the band!), but I've done posters/cd covers and such. I like Omnigraffle (Mac program) for doing that kind of layout. Illustrator is the tool for logos.

This is what I did with ours. We put it on different colors shirts each time we buy our next batch of shirts, so it's kind of a cheap way of looking like you have different shirts. But it works. We also put it on business cards, stickers, press kits, or anything that we send out. I've had random people come up to me saying that they've seen my stuff on myspace or other places. So there's something to this "branding" thing afterall.
