Question for those of you who "let the hard drive spin"
How do go about distributing the results?
I'm guessing only two channels?
I tried that one night (multi-channel for possible isolation) and ended up with a 7.something GIG Sonar bundle file?
Splitting it up was a nightmare
When we'd do open-air mic, catch-it-all recordings direct to the pc, I think we'd just do mono. Check your bitrate settings too. My feeling is that we know it won't be a high-quality mix, so we wouldn't record it to a highbitrate...IIRC we went direct to mp3, probably 192?
Splitting the file wasn't so bad. I just used Adobe Audition, and it had a feature where you could just mark cues (breaks) in the timeline as you listened, then once they were all marked, you could chop the file into separate tracks in one batch step.
If the file size is a problem, just get into the habit of starting a new "track" every time the band takes a break, or every hour or something.
