Yes, it would, if you have to warm up. I work with a guy who warms up to "get his sound" at full volume and for long time. At one festival gig in a neighboring state he was "warming up" and "getting his sound" at the same time that the Mayor of the town was making announcements prior to introducing us. The mayor had to actually turn around and tell him to stop playing. He actually said "I'm getting my sound ". Freakin' embarrassing and very unprofessional
My comment was tongu-in-cheek, but they may have been testing to see how you would react. I've done plenty of jazz gigs where they put the "screws" to the new guy.
There's an infamous story of Joe Jones throwing a cymbal at Charlie Parker when he got lost during a solo.
See if you hear back from them and learn something. Or not
Are there are no further gigs? If not, blow it off, they are nut cases. If they ask you back, tell them not a chance unless they have a plausible explanation of what went down, and why that you will except.

Me too. I did have a crazy guitar player run off in the middle of a gig and leave the drummer and me holding the bag so to speak. Club owner was PISSED
The whole thing sounds truly bizarre. "Happens to everyone"?--what does that even mean? They walk off on all their bass players? I would have no intent of ever playing with them ever again, but I have to admit, it's so baffling and weird I'd probably press one of them to find out WTAF the deal was. I mean, it makes no sense.
Maybe their bass players always explode like the drummers in Spinal Tap.

We're missing some info here. It might be context, cues the OP didn't see, or some words said between band members, but this doesn't tell us the full story.
Best guess: OP is noodling away, possibly way too loud or at least to the great detriment of the others who are trying to prepare. Maybe they told him to stop, or turn down, or informed him he was playing a totally different song, and he didn't hear or ignored them outright. Band gets frustrated and decides to just let him go solo since he isn't engaging with others.
All the people here saying "Gosh those guys are ********" would be on the other side if the story went "So I'm setting up for a gig, guitar dude is way too loud hacking away like he's Steve Vai, we tell him to turn down, he just wanks away, we give him a cue, he ignores us, so finally we all just walk away and leave him to do his solo bit." And you'd all say "yeah way to show that jerk!"

I have to wonder if there is something missing but I still feel bad for the OP with what we know now.
If he was invited back, I would assume that they liked his playing. Unless he warmed up with a Fuzz tone through a Marshall Stack i wouldn't expect anyone to abandon the stage. That is the height of ass-holery.

World is full of nice people, you just run into the wrong crew. Leave them and if they call, tell them you stopped reading minds two years ago. You are too important to waste time with these individuals.
