Bandmates and your basses

Hello everyone.............Do any of your bandmates prefer any of your basses over a different one, that you play at gigs or practice? I've had a guitarist and a drummer both tell me how much they liked my Warwick Thumb and Sadowsky.
Any other bass I bring no comment either way.

Yeah, I get differing opinions on what I play. Usually the guys I play with prefer my Bongo to the Aerodynes & Jazz bass, but also seem to really like my American Standard P with Rotosound SB66s through a Darkglass B7K.

They have a thing for clear, punchy basses especially when we’re running distortion/overdrive. Which is good, because I do too and I prefer the way those basses feel and play to my other ones. I think they would really like a Stingray Special, but that’s not in the cards right now.

Nope. Quite the opposite. They always tell me that no matter what bass or rig I bring, I always sound like me. Sometimes it takes a little fun out of new gear day.

event band: the BL cares about "looks." (i'm usually playing a black bass, or the one in my avatar.)

jazz band: those cats care about the playing. (i play whatever.)

My 50s/Oldies band doesn't want me to bring my six string Ibanez, they want the Fender P (well, duh, obvious choice).

The classic rock band wants me to leave the P at home and bring the six. Mindblowing, right!

I've had more than one drummer prefer the P Bass you see in my avatar.

And anytime a drummer notices something like that, you know it must be significant.

I've had one bass that the dudes in my band had issue with and it was an Ibanez BTB 405 . I modded it with Aguilar Super Singles and a Bass Mods pre . I thought it was an awesome bass but they just didn't like the Pointy bass for some reason , just the looks I guess . Oh well , I have a couple great basses now that they like .

My drummer is a life long woodworker. He hates any bass I use that has an opaque finish. He's downright offended by my Danelectro Longhorn. Loves any bass that looks like fancy wood, even if it's a veneer.

Nobody notices. Well, a keyboard player asked how many different ones I have, but nobody has ever commented on what they sound like. I think about sound for my own amusement.

Ive been told I sound like me on whatever bass i play......i should also point out that my live basses are also more fundamentally alike than they are different

The only time was a Stingray with dead G syndrome. The band at large told me to not bring that bass back.

When it's an important gig The guitarists want me to bring my Drakes or my MIJ Jag deluxe or FGN jazz. It usually my Drake in my avatar that has moms name on it. Dad is second because he's fretless

In the current 3 piece I am in the guitarist prefers my jazz bass and the drummer prefers my p bass. I personally prefer my p bass.

...which I haven’t used live in two years, lol!

Not my current band. I've been the only gearhead in it untill recently. The drummer always tried to borrow another band's drums so he can avoid lugging his out, and one of our guitarists couldn't care less about his gear as long as it works. Our new second guitarist, however, is kind of a gearhead and has asked me about my two main basses, the Ric and the Westone.

In my previous band the drummer had definite opinions on both these basses and liked them each for different reasons. He and I are still friends, of course, because his opinions were correct (translate: "his opinions were the same as mine").

It's all very fluid. Depending what guitar or amp the guitarist(s) there are better and worse bass choices and vice versa
