From a thread in band management, I thought this whole idea could be expanded on better in the bass humor section. I wrote:

I know bands are like girlfriends a lot, but not always - it's better that your bands know about each other up front, before you join. With girlfriends it usually is smarter to not let them know too much about each other.

except most women don't ask you to marry them on the first date ....

differences:

- One night stands when being commited is safer with the bands thingy :D.

- Bands produce songs. Marriages often produce kids. Songs can be turned off :hiding:.

similarities:

- An open relationship is like being a hired sub?

- When having a headache, both are no fun.

Not exactly in the spirit of the thread but , I'll bite.

Doing a task for MONEY makes you a whore , what that task is ,
is irrelevant.

In conclusion , whoring makes the world go something something.

Correction... doing a task for money is what makes the world go round. Performing a task for lots of people in exchange for money is what makes one a whore.

...Doing righteous work for money does NOT make one a whore...

So being a whore (or not), all comes down to what one considers righteous work??

Sorry if I sound confused, but in my entire life I've never had the word righteous come to mind when thinking about, or doing any kind of work, even when I was slaughtering commies for god and country. I just concentrate on the goal at hand and let the rest of the world decide how to characterize the result.

At one time there was a certain amount of ethics involved in working for others, or working others for you, but given our current obsession with the size of our personal cash pile when we check out, the final result is all that matters any more to most folks.

IMO, given the current environment of "more me less you", the only "bad" work is that for which the compensation agreed upon is not forthcoming at the completion of the job.

So where does this righteous work you speak of fit into the current mindset? is it only that work for which money is forthcoming? Is it that work for which both money and personal satisfaction is the reward? Is it that work for which only personal satisfaction is the compensation?

I can get away with being in 4 bands at a time. Having 4 girlfriends at a time would get tricky:P

My band mates don't care how many G strings I pluck a night. My girlfriend would care if I was plucking other women's G strings.

Sometimes being in/with a good band/hot chick that you don't like can do good for your reputation.

Sometimes you forget important gear... i.e. a mixer or a condom.

You can have a guest star during a gig session, can't always have a guest star during an intimate session.

You don't have to have a keyboarder.... But if you have a key, you can board her. (a bit of a stretch.... I know...)
