Bands that singers ruin...

His early stuff was AWESOME. I did have to track down a lyric sheet for the song. But the line

'I kissed the tears of my goddess
and she was gone by the dawn
of my new day'

(Third verse for those looking for it)

Always gets me.

It's not the words...it's his complete lack of musical talent.

67 posts and no one's mentioned AC/DC yet?

I don't know how I could have missed AC/DC!! Except perhaps that I don't consider their cat scratching to be music.

I'm sooo with you. I like almost every cover/remake of his songs but Bob makes me want to poke my eye!!!!

The man deserves his accolades, for his writing and influence, but good lord what a god-awful, horrible sounding voice. I look at Springstein the same way. Great, sometimes brilliant writer, but the vocals ruin the songs for me. Additional negative marks for Springstein's arrangements.

Rush. I really want to like them but there's no way I can get over Geddy's singing.

Dylan. Wouldn't call that singing even if I were deaf.

Paul McCartney and all his bands. The Beatles is OK when Lennon sings. Sounds like a douche no matter what he does.

I love when people bash singers as "talentless hacks", the same singers that have fronted globally successful bands (some also as players but most of those listed were just singers), and can be identified on a first name basis. These bands without these same singers probably would have gone nowhere.

Best live singer I ever shared a stage or jam with was the guy from Dishwalla. Trained with an opera singer, unbelievable range and control live, amazing voice for rock that probably 99% of TB will never hear. Check out their Depeche Mode song on the DM cover tribute http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x_6qMOA8AWg. Sure, Eddy, Geddy, Anthony and Zach don't have "amazing" voices in a classical sense...but as frontmen with unique voices they can and have enchanted and entertained audiences that number in the millions.

I'll cut Billy Corgan some slack....I think of the times I was listening to GISH back in college and all I want to do is thank the guy, cracking funny high pitch voice and all.
