Bands with more than one bass player

I played fretless in a band with 2 bass players (the other fretted). The other guy would switch to keyboards for a couple songs but most of the time I played lead/fill type parts.
They also did it in 2000 when they opened for Dream Theater at The Palace in L.A.
Came here to say Dumpstaphunk, but everyone beat beat me to it. Also, the last time I saw Bootsy live, he had an extra bassist on stage as well.
I heard a radio interview with Manu Dubango back in the 1960s when "Soul Makossa" was on the charts. He said (in a wonderful rich African accent) that he used TWO bass players because one bass player "does not give me enough BOTTOM!" ...
Hetch Hetchy is a river waterfall on the way to the Northeast Kingdom in Vermont. I played on a bill with them at what was Green Street Station club in Jamaica Plain Boston, Linda sounded amazingly like her brother. (good, reedy tamber like The Roache's) The band Camped in their parked van overnight. (I'm not 100% sure of that) but later a band was called Camper Van Beethoven so the idea was around. I thought these where real Southerners, the van was a home. Also saw Hugo Largo at that club. The whole lot is a very nice condo now and a fountain park across the street is popular with families.

I'm pretty sure they named themselves after the Hetch Hetchy valley in CA - it was flooded and a reservoir was created. But I could be wrong.
I'm originally from Jacksonville, FL. My sister's boyfriend's older brother (Jay Totty) was the other half of the band on the second album - it was just Linda and Jay with backing musicians. I think the backing band toured separately as Toast (and I saw them once at the Hardback Cafe in Gainesville). Never saw Hugo Largo - they played once at Einstein A Go Go in Jax Beach, but I wasn't allowed to go!

Yeah, not enough frenquencies to fit inthe mix ! I joined a band that their old bass player, was their new singer! He had a hard time giving up the title & would frequently bring his bass to play during breaks! He'd continually suggested songs he thought I didnt like so he could play on them! fortunately he was just starting(on bass),so his skills were kinda weak. The rest of the band confided in me, assuring that I was the Bass player of choice. I was content, but I was very non commited to this band (horrible drummer & poorly managed). so I never made a fuss over his intrusion,in fact I was looking for an out, but this made the singer/bass more ambitious! I eventually left after a disagreement with the bad drummer, not the singer!
We attempted to try Multi- Bass Players, but it was just Chaotic muddy mess, It would take a concerted effort to figure it out,but like said, they/we were very poorly managed & the lead Guitarist quickly nixed the whole effort! As "this is stupid! We have a real Bass Player!" (LG points to me) our time would be better spent helping the drummer hone his "skills". so that ended our feeble attempt, it did feel dumb, & pointless! We continually stepped on each others toes & it added nothing more to the songs, it would just be a stupid gimmick for the band & placate the singer's desire to play bass! He refused to play rythym guitar!! I volunteered to, but the LG quickly denied or shot it down.
It wasnt about egos. at least on my part ( as i was looking to quit this band)+the singer wasnt a strong or skilled player, he knew what he was doing, but would often play weird fills or off time licks, it would also require the band to change their written in stone set list! not to mention serious cooperation between the singer & I. things were already touchy at best between us as I was viewed as the intruder, as I was his more capable replacement! It was very annoying more than anything else, especially having to deal with an overbearing bad drummer( think Lars Ulrich w/half the "skill") to boot! it wasnt long after,that I outright won the bass position, i got into a stupid argrument with said drummer I quit! giving the singer his coveted position back. Not long after I heard the band disenegrated & broke up for good(as told to me by the LG)!
Lots of old country recordings have two basses, upright and Fender VI, for the "tic-tac" sound.
